Soon after, I slid out in a grassy field and bent the aluminum shifter quite badly...but I took out a wrench, and bent it right back...I think it bends where it needs to... So I don't know what the exact answer is, however it's not as strong as it looks, and they are quite pliable.... For extra safety, i installed a "Brake Snake"...When I fell and bent the MSR, the fall caused the brake snake to break off!! (This pic is with the stock shifter, I can take another of the MSR aluminum one if required.) http://picasaweb.google.com/MrChrist...33007367733538

toofast: So the MSR shifter end is in virtually the same place as the stocker? The moose one sticks out much further than stock and looks like if I installed it it'd be annoying. Thanks.

FYI - the Touratech F650GS shifter works just fine, and is really bendy.

for changing the front sprocket, how do you guys keep from simply spinning the wheel with the torque needed to losten the bolt? It is not reverse thread right? im somewhat worried to fully force it loose not knowing the thread pattern

First time I took sprocket off it was kinda tough, it was on there tight. I jack the bike up to comfortable working level, remove 3 bolts on front sprocket cover (8mm). Lower bike back down so wheels are weighted (by me leaning over bike from left side to put my weight on it), loosen front sprocket bolt (14mm? from memory) and rear axle bolt (26mm), to provide chain slack. Lift bike back up to work on it. BTW, I've been swapping between 14, 15, and 16 tooth front sprockets. I have the speed vs rpm charts made up if anyone wants me to post them. Or you can go here...
http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/misc/SpeedCalc.html to calculate them your self. The BMW manual has all the data you'll need to input. |

RPM vs Speed for 14,15,16 tooth front sprocket on XChallenge using stock rear tire (Metzler Enduro 3, 140/80x18). Please NOTE: I'm using a calibrated Vapor speedometer on my bike. The inaccurate stock speedo unit will not give you true rpm's unless you know how much error it has.
