Eastern PA Folks, I have a request....
Can some post or PM me the coordinates for the Smoking Hole in Jim Thorpe Pa? And coordinates for any abaonded cole mine/pit areas to ride near JT.
My brother is taking his vacation out in JT at a family owned house. I plan to visit him and go for a ride but Im not sure where to go. I've seen the Photos of the Smoking hole here on ADV rider, but i don't know how or where it is. So please help a fellow FF out. I don't have a GPS, but i plan to use GE for locations of these places and make my own route from there. Thanks Al.

I will post them when I get home this evening. I was up there just a couple of weeks ago.
Have you tried just searching Centralia on GE. It should show up, with pictures even.

As you go into Centralia, north on 54 the smoking hole will be on your left near a cemetery. There is a road going up to it. If you get to the stop sign you went to far. As you head to Centralia from Ashland you will take a detour around the berms blocking the old section of road that is melted and warped. There is a mine tour/museum in Ashland. Plenty of signs to point you to it. Ashland ain't too big. You shouldn't have any trouble finding either place. Good luck. |
