Here's a Cycleracks rack on my '03:

Tool bag removed and replaced with load deck:

Tool bag relocated to front fork with aftermarket bracket:

While a Kawasaki accessory rack exists for the KLR250, it's only rated for 5 pounds, IIRC; and . . . I personally found fitment TERRIBLE; had to re-drill mounting holes, etc.

Gave mine away and installed Cycleracks unit; can pack out an elk quarter, lifetime guarantee, none ever broken in service.

Willkommen

Your English is fine. We wreck the language daily so don't worry about it. The videos are great. They remind me of the way I rode my old Suzuki 250 when I was much younger (and braver). Maybe I'll try that on my KLR. Thanks for posting. When you said "barbie" I expected to see a pink bike.

Was there an accessory front rack available for these bikes or something?

See the two holes on the lower triple? they're threaded.

Nope, they're just there. Think Kawi uses the same setup on multiple models, might be a fairing mount.

The tool bag relocation bracket mounts to those two threaded holes:

Tool bag relocated to front fork with aftermarket bracket:

Although the product is out of production now, I have access to the four remaining front fork tool bag relocation brackets and rear mini-decks (covering OEM tool bag area on rear fender) in the world; from the manufacturer, unused, new.

If anyone's interested in these KLR250 accessories, PM me.

(BTW, if you should mount the tool bag bracket (or any other accessory) in the holes in question, use a self-tapping machine screw, or chase the threads with a tap beforehand; those open threaded holes rust, corrode, and collect all manner of trash, in time.)

WTB rack and muffler

Hi folks,

Trying to get my new to me '98 KLR Jr. road ready and I'm looking for a stock muffler in good shape. Aftermarket slip-on would work too, as long as it has a spark arrestor and is USFS decibel rated.

A rear rack or pannier combo would be nice too!

Anybody have anything lying around? Shoot me a PM.

Thanks!

When did Kawasaki stop providing the USAF, USMC and Army with the KLR250? I think those holes might be for something those branches of the military fitted to the bikes for service.

Not sure. Those same trees are used on the Klr650, and probably 600 as well. They may have had a purpose on an earlier model, just none now. I don't recall any special stuff mounted there on the military bikes.

Did an update earlier. Doing some little things, basically waiting for parts to show up (dealer is dragging their feet with parts orders). Discovered that even though I bagged and tagged everything stuff is still missing, so also going through that. I blame the cat .

what KLR600 parts fit a 250?

Specifically, will the exhaust (muffler only) from an '86 KLR600 fit a '98 KLR250? I looked up the parts diagram and they look the same, although the parts numbers are different. I'm wondering if an aftermarket DG exhaust for the 600 i saw cheap will fit my 250. The bikes look very similar. What's different besides head and displacement?

if the bends are right and the mounting holes line up it seems like it would work. Anybody seen this?

Alternatively, is there any power gain from removing the baffle from a stock 250 muffler, or does it just make it louder?

thanks!
