Military Surplus!

Looks like the Marines gave two of the military version KLR 250s to the local town and they are selling them:

Too bad they don't have titles!

Heck if it was cheaper and/or closer I'd probably buy it anyways. Of course I'd never share plates with my other 250...

I can't believe it's up to $810. I surely wouldn't pay that much for a 23 year old military 250 with no title. To each their own though.

I was thinking I'd go about 300 to 350 max if it was within a few hours of driving. Maybe 400 after looking it over closer.

Hey guys. I was hoping someone could snap a picture for me. I had my gas cap all taken apart, and I'm wondering if I'm missing a grommet of some sort here that sandwiches in between the little "arm" and the tank. You can see the "needle" on the pivoting portion that lines up with it.

Thanks
-Alex

I don't think the military KLR250 was diesel. Here's some info on it:

http://home.earthlink.net/~klr250inf...e/military.htm

The military KLR650 has a diesel (multi-fuel) variant, called the M1030M1 by the Marines. Looks like it weighs 369 lbs versus 293 lbs for the base M1030. More info:

Hey guys, think one of you could snap a picture of your gas fill vent as pictured a couple posts up?

Also the throttle cable routing would be nice as well.

Thank,
-Alex

Here's a picture of the gas cap:

I don't have the energy to prop the tank up tonight for the throttle cable routing. If nobody posts a picture in the next day or two, I'll try to.

Awesome! Looks like I'm not missing anything!

As far as the throttle cables, I have them running under the gas tank rubber knob, through the same cable guide the clutch runs through, in between the triple trees, then out through the top to the right of the cluster. I can take some pictures tomorrow, but nothing seems to bind up.

It looks to me like you're missing this little grommet thing that I have the arrow pointing to.

That appears to be metal and part of my tank? I'll take a look when I get home.
Thanks again,
-Alex

I would greatly appreciate photos of the throttle cable routing! I'm at that step on my bike as we speak.

Dolt! You're right! From your other picture, it looked like there was a space where something was missing. From the looks of mine, I just assumed it was a rubber grommet type piece... But I checked and it is indeed a metal part of the tank. lol
