All told I rode an old cr500 only a small handful of times, and first problem was starting the bitch, my buddy had to reinforce his right boot as it was always torn up from the kick starter.
That was a very scary bike!

Since AG is too scared, I will let skinner and jzee ride the cr500.
Mine is the last gen and it is actually easy to start hot or cold , it just shifts fantastic, great trans and light clutch pull. In stock form its really dangerous...I put a throttle tube that lets you pick different cams after almost looping at 60+ on a gravel road. You need some smoothness on throttle as it will hurt you in a second. The front wheel is always in the air...its the only bike where I have had to take an extra step and back off the throttle a bit to put front down when entering a corner. I had a 92 KTM dxc 550 which was the biggest 2t made then and it makes more power then the cr500 but was really tough to start cold with left side kicker. The KTM was a monster and had a nice low 1st gear, actually rideable in woods slow. The KTM had a really tough clutch pull and notchy shifting, after riding the Honda I sold the 550 beast. 550 vid here http://youtu.be/ls0xNxuDNRE

Not enough BS.
I never said I wouldn't ride a CR500. I have yet to ride a bike that "scares" me. Ever.

Well when you ride nothing but KTM's that'll probably happen.

I rode a CR500 for almost 10 years, MX, trails, Hare Scambles and Ice Racing, nothing scary about them, yup thier powerfull and vibrate like a cement mixer, not to mention they drink fuel like an F-16 on the afterburners.
Bottom line, a modern 450 jap mxer is faster and Skinner's a big virgina.
