So that's an accurate disclaimer?

Sounded to me like Moose was saying this isn't the place to start. Moose, where would you suggest?

Or I could just man up and jump into the deep end. Y'all who know what the hell you're doing won't mind getting bottlenecked every few hundred yards waiting for me to get out from underneath my bike again will you?

If you don't wanna do it, don't do it. Don't feel like you gotta make excuses for this group here.

My suggestion? Bring your bike out (as it is, with whatever tires). Talk to the guys at the registration\sign up and be honest with them. If you're a total n00b, tell them that. Chances are that you will not be the only one. The idea with events like these, are to get more people into it. They'll make sure you have a great day, no matter what.

Only other thing I'll say is that if you don't do it today, you'll be 1 year older if you do it next year.

Roost on!

Hey Bart, bring your bike and give it a try. If fast guys want to go around you then they will. If your holding people up then their too dumb to go around you.
I would assume there will be some noobs there. Hell I just started riding last year after being off a dirt bike for ten years. I've had 9 hand surgeries in that 10years off and will be riding the Leaf River with two bulged disks in my neck. What I'm getting at is you won't be the only guy falling down and not flying thru the woods.
I'm going because I love to ride.

I remember have the same trepidation about doing a gravel road ride, in Dubuque, many moons ago. I took my DR350SE and had a blast (after wondering if I should ride at all - never having ridden gravel before).

It's been pretty dry so it shouldn't be very muddy. You may hit some slick spots, you may not. As others have said, let the fast guys by and let the fast & dumb ones stack up behind you. When you get tired, call it a day. What's the worst that could happen? It's not like you're playing basketball for Louisville or anything........

Let's get my point here.............

As a club member who's been trying to promote this ride, I feel it's my duty to tell the truth, I don't wanna see anybody get hurt or leave pissed off at the club or myself.

2 years ago at Brush Popper's dual sport in Morrison, there were 2 older guys packing up thier new DR650's early, they were mad as hell, thier comments were " Who the fuck said this was a dual sport ride, this is brutal, we got stuck so many times, we said fuck it and took the road back to the pits and we'll never be back.

This is what I don't want to happen, so don't say I didn't warn you, this is a hard core trail ride with a little bit of dual sport mixed in it, if your a noob, don't have knobbies and your out of shape, this ride might not be your cup of tea.

And Bart, try out the Kettle Morain Dual Sport Ride, it's right up your alley, good luck.

I've seen an old Honda 500 four with a knobby on his bike do it. Piece of cake.

That first section of the Brushpoppers ride was a little and technical and since it was at the start, it got a little bottlenecked with lots of bikes. That's why I rode around it...right Moose?

Its a beautiful night. 990 weather.

In was riding wheelies on the gasgas and hopping on my front steps.

I think there is dual sport info at WWW.amadistrict17.com or check WWW.midwestenduros.com. Ryan moss keeps a good record of that stuff there.

Or Google "Illinois dual sport events".
