Bia-3 / Coolidge Dam Road

Does anyone know if this is paved the whole way around San Carlos lake?

Want to take the LT for a long day ride and have never been there...

Figure riding all the way around the lake and on to Safford for lunch and back to town the long way around through Tucson.

I know the part of IR500 southbound from US70 near Peridot is paved and was in decent shape last year. (Went there on my LT as well.) My map shows the rest that comes out near Bylas is also paved, so I think you're good.

Let us know and have a nice ride!

I've been told that it is badly deteriorated blacktop. It's on my list of things to check out.

Going to ride out and check out the road and dam on the 17th of this month. Leave about 07:30 and be back by 4:00pm.
Anyone want to tag along let me know and I will get you the contact info...

Probably just out and back, stay off the slab through Tucson.

Kev-
I did it on my VFR about a year ago.

The road is indeed deteriorated.

Still worth the cool little detour IMO.

Watch out for these fellers.

If you're heading to Safford you might consider checking out the Swift Trail.

It's a cool little trip that not a lot of people know about. It turns into dirt about 30 miles from the center of Safford so on a street bike you've got to turn around but it's still nice to be able to ride this twice.

This is where you have to turn back around.

much obliged

Will see if I can fancy the wife to take a 60mile detour ;) coolidge dam is a go for sure ;)

just got the go ahead….

a little feedback…..

2 years on and the dam is still pretty ;) roads a lot less.
From peridot down it is nice. Then just before the dam it gets worse.
If it would be any worse I'd say it would be a gravel road.
Lotsa slit on the road, so don't go when wet, lotsa gravel and corrugation.
We made it though ;) Took us 2 hours more or less.
