I'm sure I can search, but does anybody have any advice/experience on dealing with interstate or long distance sales? Specifically, purchasing a bike that you've never physically seen. It's a risk, but I'd fly and ride.

Thanks.
I had the local dealer go check it out. Paid for it (credit card for an hour's shop rate) but if there was something mechanically wrong when I got there, after the shop guy checked it out, at least I had someone to talk to about it. I justified the expense as a little insurance policy against getting ripped off completely. I did a ride (the train) and ride and loved it. It was quite an adventure.

If I had the money, I'd probably buy it. Looks like early 950's are coming waay down in price.

Thanks! I haven't thought of that...good idea. I am secretly wishing that I will have to get out of the the State to buy a GC so I can justify a mini adventure.

we need to revive this thread. I would love some help in finding a cheap running dual sport, and cheap is key. Engine size does not matter, as this will be a first bike for my buddy. Year and cosmetics dont matter either, i just need one that runs. If anyone has something in mind feel free to drop me a line. Thanks

Willu - you should try Jaxed.com as well as crazedlist.org Give it about a 300 mile radius and you'll find something in a couple of days of searching.

What's cheap?

You can find late 80's Honda XL600's for under $1500 quite often. IIRC, mid to late 90's DR650's are in the same price range. Of course a 70's Honda XL350 kicks ass.

Do either of you do your own wrenching?
