I have had several GS

but if you have warm blood running through your veins, your eyes automatically direct the gaze towards a big KTM just to do that........ easier... better........... safer
GS destroys itself with that form of driving

though the picture is sharp, lively, electrifying, powerful and above all, is not a pose.

Hey Ian, looks like you've moved up the ladder a few notches. Ditched the KLR I see... It was bound to happen.

Yes, it is related. I think it's the third cousin on ADV's mother's side.

as in its from deviantart.com not something originally posted on advrider.com.... maybe?

Also, i concur, the pic of the KTM in teh water a few pages back is clearly photoshopped... and although it looks cool, theres some basic mistakes made that if corrected would have made it more believable.

The water is clearly cut out a ways in front of the bike. Its clear and untouched under the wheels and a ways in front, then it magically goes to motion blurr...

The front wheel spokes are missing, and the front tire has some transparency to it. The front tire should have been given a circular motion blurr to help this. The rear also suffers from this.

The foreground and background have the same amount of blurr. The depth of field in the photo would lent to longer and shorter blurring.

Theres some areas around the rider where the blurring doesn't go "behind" the rider, but a few pixels from the edge. This is from not editing the edge color of the rider as the blurr changed the color behind the rider in areas but the edge pixels of the rider retained the original background light reflection color.

Just some suggestions for someone if they wanted to try it again - not trying to attack the image or editor. It looks cool, and if that was me in the picture I would love having that picture of myself! Props to all the effort put in by the photographer and editor!

On that note, I would like to submit my own photo. Its lightly edited, mostly for color and sharpness. Nothing too exciting... I had about 15 seconds to set up the composition on it... 30 secs if you include the time it took me to whip the DSLR out of the camera bag after sliding to a stop at the top of a hill. I had about 2 seconds to decided where to stop for the shot as i came over the hill and around the corner.

Mostly, i'm posting this as a reference for myself... My submission to this thread now, so that one day i can compare what i've submitted now (and assumably didn't make it) and what I hope to submit one day in the future and if my submissions have gotten better over the years. :)

You gents with the giant sand dunes and crazy frozen lakes deserve to be on the home page so much more than my simple photo.

+1. Too bad it's a little blurry, but I fully understand the sliding to a stop, grab the camera out, and snap a pic that you just realized might look really cool style of shooting. Well done!!

Was the pic taken in OK? I've got a freind out there I keep meaning to visit, non rider, and this pic is making me want to go see him!

Our ride took us from SE OK to SW Arkansas on a three day ride two weekends ago. Most of the ride had 2" of snow and ice on the road / trail...

This was on the East side of Poteau Mountain, probably in Arkansas, but not sure.

Its only "blurry" because i shot in RAW Small... i didn't know but someone had switched my settings sometime before the ride, and i forgot to check the file size. That, and i believe was at the max zoom of the 18/135 lens i had on, so there might have been a little shiver blurr there... i was shivering, and it blurred... maybe.

Just for reference, this view shows my vantage point on the hill... See the bike in the picture? It would barely be JUST OUTSIDE THE FRAME on the bottom left corner of the other shot.

does not indicate nominated pictures have to be from advrider.com

i don't think most of the pictures here credit the origin of the photos they are posting anyways.

as for your picture i love the color variations compared to the blandness of a frozen lake or giant dunes picture.

do you think maybe next time you can ride a little faster and stop a little quicker so you can wind up with an even more appropriate candidate nice pic
