They Don't Call It 'The Rock' For Nothing

Lorenzo and I were chompin' at the bit to get out and get our off road legs back, after a long winter, and just few recent mellow street rides. We decided we'd get back into the off road groove the hard way, literally. We headed off to ride one of our favorite technical trails...The Shoal Bay Trail. The weather was a mix of sun and cloud, but temperatures climbed up to about 20 degrees Celsius (68F), in the woods, in Eastern Newfoundland (a.k.a. 'The Rock') today.

We eventually ended up riding down a funky little technical side-trail, which lead us right onto the rocky coastline itself, and along the cliff tops. To our surprise, neither one of us crashed or dropped our bike in the tangly stuff, but there were definitely a few "OH SH!T" moments.

If you want to test out your bike's suspension, and get in some good technical riding practice, I highly recommend this trail. But make sure you and your bike both have some good off road armor, because there's bound to be some crunching, grinding, and slamming going on as you make your way down this trail. But the fun-factor is guaranteed to be off the scale! I think the satisfied grin on Lorenzo's face, in the last photo below, is proof enough of how much fun the Shoal Bay trail really is.

Here's a few snaps from today's ride...

Looks like great fun. The term "trail" is a little suspect in some of the pictures.

Thanks, guys...

It was a great day of riding. We really needed it, after the two solid weeks of rain and fog we've just had.
