Spot - mine is here

I am still messing with it and trying to work, I have it activated.

Pics to show size, I purchased though a group buy with one of the main forums I am with. For next year in the US I will activate tracking but for now its just when I push the OK button.

More later. Spot Link

I have never seen these before, thanks for the link aussiedav, very interesting

could this be used in place of/instead of an EPIRB? (although I see the 911 function needs to be manually operated?)

Cheers

This is quite posibly the first one in Australia, I have been onto these for months now and the main forum I deal with had one member raise his hand as a dealer.

Not sure about instead of EPIRB, by the way it will not call 911. The message goes to the Spot people and it calls the emergency number for the various country 000 for us.

I took the $100,000 search and rescue cover as well, will activate the $49/yr tracking later to co-incide with my US trip next year.

I have had mine now since January and so far it's worked flawlessly. I ride the open country of N Nevada, Idaho and southeastern oregon and trip/ride in Baja MX always sent the signal to the family although it my take 8 to 15 minutes before it goes.

Hope you the best with it down there; keep us posted.

i like the check in and tracking functions. that's its best seller.

works out more than an epirb over a 6 yr scan. US$150 plus $150 p/a for tracking and checkin in.

not sure of its value on oz.
how does the 911 work in oz?

more info on your uses and reasoning, davo.

I am on the road at all hours in some remote country areas always on my own. It's for peace of mind for my wife and family mainly. It's becoming a huge thing for the distance riding community, about 100 units were bought on this group buy to start with.

It has huge potential for all types of people such as bush walkers and so on.

$150 and $99 a year is little cost for my life.

I think you are right or he was looking into it.

I have a strong connection to the group I got mine through in the US, they are all the same and I got it at a good price which included a donation for the group. $135 usd delivered. We will have a 50% off coupon in the next week or so for the tracking ($49 usually a year) for the first year so will activate that then.

I honestly don't understand much about this, but from what I've read i will buy one tomorrow.

Anyone with contacts in the US willing to organise a group buy here in Australia?

I Had an old gme epirb that has given us piece of mind for about the last 10 years remote 4wd'ing and riding, i think the network it uses is just about defunct from memory, these things are light years ahead, its a small price to pay if in the unfortunate case of something to go wrong. It doesnt take much to really stuff you up when your in the middle of nowhere. I give mine out to family too when their off on remote adv. Count me as intrested if you do a group buy dependant on final arangements
