Laugh BAJA: quickie weekend trip (Oct 4-6, 2008)

Anyone up for a quick Baja trip? October 4-6, 2008.

I have two destinations in mind:
  1. Mike's Sky Rancho (stay Saturday night)
  2. Bahia de Los Angeles (stay Sunday night)
I have to work Saturday until 2pm and plan on leaving from work (in Long Beach) shortly thereafter. I'll be hauling ass to the border and off to Mike's Sky Rancho hopefully before it gets dark. Last time I was there (Oct 2007), Mike charged $65/person. This included a shared room with two others in my group, a kick-ass steak dinner, and breakfast. If you've never been to Mike's, it's a "must do" destination.

Sunday morning after breakfast and on the way to Bahia de LA, I'll be stopping by Alphonsina's in Gonzaga Bay for lunch, and off to Coco's Corner to say hi to Coco. Once we arrive in Bahia de Los Angeles, we'll look for a decent room, post up, relax, and enjoy the scenery.

Monday morning, take a nice, leisurely cruise north, back to the border. This entire trip consists of a lot of slab with the exception of some fun dirt between MexHwy 3 and Mike's Sky Rancho, and Puertocitos to Bahia de Los Angeles.

Below are a few pics from last year's ride:

Finally on the dirt to Mike's!

1/4 mile before Mikes. This is the west to east route.

The facade of the famous Mike's Sky Rancho.

The gathering before dinner. This place was booked and bikes were parked everywhere!

Kick-ass steak dinner!

Is anyone interested?

Never have riden in Mexico. Tried to make it to Mike's Ranch in a pickup truck once got stuck in the snow and felt up by the Federales! This trip sounds quick, down and dirty....I like it!

Rich I have a ?'s for you. When you said you'll be hauling a$$ after work. Will you be hauling the bike or riding it? For this trip to the Sky ranch and coco's do you need a tourist visa? If you don't mind me asking? What did this trip cost you last year? Thats my Bday weekend maybe I can barrow a friends ride or finally have a ds of my own by then. Ben

Hey, what's up Ben?! I plan on riding down to save time, unless there are other riders who trailer down? If so, we can cross at Tecate and park our vehicles/trailers at the old KOA in La Rumorosa, located on the south-side of the border. I think that's where that friendly KOA is? I'll verify this. Something like $5/day to park there and many riders have reported that the location is safe & secure. As ywr969 said, no tourist card is required.

I hope you can make this trip Ben! I'm counting on you here!

Thumb I may want to join this ride

I can't give a sure yes yet... not sure what my schedule is going to be ....
But I'll try my best to be avaliable that week end...

Will love to go down to some of those trails with people that have already been there.

You may want to consider Highway 94 a real nice ride....that goes trough Teacate and wine region of Guadalupe Valley and takes you faster to Ensenada .

The KOA, known now as Rancho Ojai is on the free road (not the quota) roughly 15 miles east of Tecate not far west of El Hongo. La Rumorosa would be another 35 to 40 miles east of Rancho Ojai. Parking is 5 bucks a day and yes it is very safe and secure.

Long Beach to Mikes in one afternoon/evening is a pretty ambitious ride, even if you take Mex 3 from Tecate into Ensenada you still have to get though some slow city traffic, then get to either Trinindad or the Mikes turn off further down Mex 3.

Hope you have some good lights on your scooter.
