Talking KM: WooHoo!

I arrived at camp with Luke (eggroll) who I saw prior to leaving the Pearsonville Shell for camp. After Luke topped off his fuel, we were off. We arrived at camp, set up and got dressed for a late morning ride.

We took the Beach trail out of camp...

Friday's riders were:

Rich (Klammer)

Gary (Broken Spoke)

Noel (DuneRat)

Luke (eggroll)

John (luv2race)

Kenny (purelick?)

Once we got back from our ride, a few other folks had shown up...

...Don (DR350) unexpectedly showed up. He was supposed to be out of town this weekend, but he just couldn't keep away from us FF's!

Randy from Burbank

Ben (ben99r1)

Jerry (Baja650Rider)

windrat

I forget this FF's name, but he sure had a nasty laceration to his knee. I'm sure the pic will surface soon.

Day Two: (Saturday) Monache Meadow ride, and more...

Jeff, Roger (RSC450?), Gabe (gagepari), Don (DR350), and Jerry (Baja650Rider)

Gabe (gabepari)

Cathy (sopascat) & her son Bob

Jerry (Baja650Rider)

Luke (eggroll)

SpaFixer (Jim?)

Joel (H8Chains)

Wayne?

Jeff

Greg(?) and Glenn

This ranger stopped by while we were taking a break and asked if we'd seen an orange KTM 2-stroke riding agressively and cussing out people as he passes tell them to "get the f*ck out of the way".

A Monache Meadow group shot

Soonafter exploring this huge meadow, we were back on the Monache Meadow 4x4 trail towards the pavement...

...Luke (eggroll) tearing it up with his DR350

Jerry (Baja650Rider)

Glenn, Gabe, and Wayne(?)

Bob

Cathy

Gary

John (luv2race) showing off his skillz...

Joel (H8Chains)

From Monache Meadow, the group split into two - single track, and double track. We met up with everyone at Osa Meadow...

...Kenny & Noel

DannyG and Luke

Joel

Cathy

Bob

SpaFixer

Smile! You're on camera! Rich (Klammer)

Soonafter everyone hit the trail back to camp. Some took the fireroad, others took the Beach Meadow single track...

Beautiful scenery on thie Beach Meadow trail (34E01)

I ran into Roger, Jerry, and Jeff on the Albanita trail.

Well...that's it for the singletrack pics...was too busy to take anymore photos.

I didn't get any pics from 'round Saturday evening's HUGE taco/campfire gathering. Thanks again to Noel & Cathy for the dinner. Noel, that was some downright tasty asada! Cathy, thanks for putting together all the fixings! Muy delicioso! Windrat, thanks for Saturday evening's premium brew selection. Thanks to everyone who showed up and contributed to a kick-ass weekend of good people, good ridiing, GOOD TIMES!

Until next year you FF's! See you all in Death Valley!

Really great pictures. Looks like you guys had way too much fun. Time to dump two of my street bikes and get a dual sport.

I often ride AF and always dream of heading off up one of those hill climbs I conquered 20+ years ago with the couple dozen dirt bikes I've owned. I'm gonna do it!

break time....and enjoying the perfect weather mid 70s, clean air and clear blue sky............hey jim, aren't we too for a mohawk hair style

i don't like this pic...to many young gringos!

here comes the ranger again and looking for a brand new ktm530 and and old 2-smoke YZ

i tell you, first time to meet these guys and we all got along very well, that is after i threatened them that no carne asada for misbehavin!

greg doesn't care where the fugawi

still the FFs could not figure out that they were reading the map upside down...........

we thought we knew where we're going so we let the big bike lead and pick the trail.......

we were so selfish that we made the 15 y.o. bob the official sweep

of course like always, mommy wasn't too far away....

and so, they all took off again and left me behind

came close at the water crossing

reminds me of the old cowboy movies crossing the rio grande

there were other riders too from another group who watched and learned how the adv riders ride and do water crossing

then we noticed one of the 2 fugitives relaxing in the shade

how could the ranger not find these guys

broken spoke even bended up his plate and only those in the sky can read it

we didn't want any association with them guys so we took off hurriedly

went around the corner like a pro....oh shit, back to nOOb status again

Thumb Great Time in Kennedy Meadow

Kobe wanted to thank everybody for the snacks.

The riding – food – fireside chats – and camaraderie was awesome! I wanted to thank Danny for helping me with my bike, after he blew my carb out – it ran like a champ. And I sure needed it for Sundays ride with Jeff and Roger. Search KM for “Have you ever gone on a ride you didn’t think you’d live through” from Jeff in RC. I would sure like to hear Jeff and Roger’s version of the ride – but here is mine.
Sunday morning we said our goodbyes and headed out to the lower part of the map toward Schaaffer Meadow to Rincon Fault. The ride was one of the most scenic rides I have ever been on. There were trails through the trees that opened up to meadows, across small streams, into fields of grass. We were all smiles. It was heaven on earth. We were all having a great time and just happy to be there. Then we came upon Cedar Canyon which Jeff in RC called “the hill of doom.” We started down Cedar Canyon when we soon realized there was no turning back. It was a steep, rocky, narrow, single track, running down the side of a cliff. We must have dropped 4000 feet in about two miles. Then we came upon Rincon Fault and the worst was still ahead of us. Rincon Fault is a series of hills that go on for about five miles, wait let me say that again – FIVE MILES. Each hill is a sandy, rocky, series of steep up hills and descents. Each one tough in its own way. Hill after hill, it was like riding through Death Valley in the summer time. Our bikes were overheating, we were running low on water and we didn’t know when it was going to end. Finally at the top of one of these hills, I could see the paved road ahead and I knew the end was near. This is truly a black diamond trail for the most advanced riders. Looking back on it now, its probably one of the best rides I have ever been on.
Thanks Jeff and Roger for a great ride – let’s do it again soon.

I'll try to post pics soon..... Jerry & Kobe dog

Wow. Had a great time. Great meeting all of you. Thanks for the dinner.
Sorry about snoring Jeff.
PS If you like dragging your bike over boulders for 5 miles, the ricon trail is for you.
