Heading to Flagstaff

Our trip to Flagstaff took about four days pacing ourselves based on my noise level toleration. About two days before our arrival, our brother and sister-in-law had arranged for a stay at a beautiful lodge in Sedona.

Interestingly enough, I seemed to have acquired the ability to tolerate some extraneous noise, FOR NOW that is. That said, I had no desire to be present in social groups and we ended up cooking and eating in the cabin for the two nights we found ourselves there. This is something we very well may have done with or without my head injury just based on how we roll.

I finally felt that I could come in for a landing among society and David and I made our way to our final destination in Flagstaff. I should make mention along the way, we stopped at a National Park and took a five mile round trip hike into a slot canyon. That’s despite my swollen and stiff left knee that I found out upon my return to NYC was actually BROKEN but non-displaced.

Realizations

Our brother (for simplicity actually my brother-in-law), John Paul and sister-in-law, Lisa were the best of hosts and the kids were just great fun.

I'll just mention a few relevant details here.

Two things stand out in my mind. First off, our 7 year old niece, Lilianna, wanted to share with me the instructions in a book that Uncle David had bought in February on a trip to the book store. “The Daring book for Girls” - her choosing of course. The chapter was of hairstyles, particularly of a pony tail kept together with a chopstick that she had shown me on Skype before our trip began in April.

I picked up the book and started to read the instructions and turned to Lily and said: I’m sorry Lil but Auntie’s going to have to save this for another time. How about if you just show me. The PRINTED WORDS were just TOO OVERWHELMING. At that time it never registered to me the future problems that detail might present.

Revelations

Secondly, Mark and Scott arrived on there way back to Tucson as planned. During our social mingling John Paul and Mark set up a night of music entertainment in John Paul and Lisa’s sound proof-room. Both John Paul and Mark are musicians (as well as Lisa).

The minute I opened the door, I had to step right out and close it because I simply couldn’t take the cacophony of the instruments – even though they were playing beautiful music. I know I missed out on a great evening of fun.

Welcome Back

I am very glad to hear from you, was wondering what had happened you.

I have been there done that with a severe concussion, mine from mountain biking. I was out for about 10 minutes, however have no recall for about 12 hours that day. Not fun to recover from. I had other injuries as well which also took time to recover from.

Glad to see your posts this afternoon LDF. I had found myself wondering how things were going for you guys just a few days ago and I'm glad to hear you're on the road to recovery from your own mouth (fingers?).

Yeah LDF!

LDF,

It was terrible to read about your accident while it was happening . Like most people on this forum, I have never met y'all, but I feel like I know you guys. You and Doc Rock were one of my main inspirations for getting my wife on a bike, and we have had many wonderful, memorable trips because of that! I'm glad to read that you are recovering, and I hope you continue to do well .
