Why Doc and LDF are the BEST

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE METICULOUSLY DOCUMENTED RIDE REPORTS!

I'm not even a dirt bike guy and I love this stuff. I'm an asphalt guy who roadraced for 11 years, half of which was in the Canadian national circus. I've gotta say, I've been to most of these places in your Mobius trips, including the Yukon/Alaska but they were all on street bikes. I've wanted to revisit these areas with my wife but now I see I'll (more like "we") be doing it by dirtbike.

How long does it take to read this stuff when you save it for your spare time? A year. It's been a fun year of reading and I've loved every bit from "The Scalas must be destroyed!" to "Hey, it's like making your own snuff film" from riding technical stuff I think on M12.

Two years ago I turned 41 and got absolutely hammered by cancer. My wife and parents were shocked that after all that racing something else was coming to kill me. Although I didn't come across your reports until the end of my year of treatment, it has inspired me. My road racing is over due to damaged health but this Mobius stuff looks great and is something I can include my wife in.

LDF, I'm so glad you seem to have recovered from your concussion. I know what memory loss is like from breaking a helmet at warp speed.

The addition of video was great and I've been taking notes. The whole ride-store-fly-return-ride concept is brilliant. I like the identical, light bikes. Thanks for the comments on the WR250R. Yes, shooting in RAW sure allows for more editing (okay, how do you crop a picture again?), the centrestand stick thingy, you've tried the goggles videocam, tarps look useful on a trip, GPX files? I guess I have to learn about that. You know how to use a multi-meter? I've swapped out my race engines three times but don't ask me which of those multimeter prongs goes up which nostril. Okay, more to learn.

Also, including others in the Mobius rides was really entertaining and added that extra dimension when the others reported in with their own photos. Nice touch.

Thanks for the years of posting. I actually just got caught up tonight but, like a good book, I've also reached the end.

You've done well. Enjoy the rest of your trips and may we all live into our 90's.

That is a nice post Ottawa Pat, I hear Peter Eagan is retiring. Perhaps you could pick up the slack for him.

Hope they be doing OK - those wind storms in the desert are brutal. Gives hating sand a whole new meaning.

Update:
We're holed up in escalate, ut for a day. Forecast today for thunderstorms, cold, & wind across the area. Raining now, (with the sun shining).

Disappointing, sure, but we have a saying here on mobius: "don't be stupid today if you were just stupid only yesterday."

So what about yesterday? Started innocently enough, a beautiful, if chilly, morning. A short side trip to see Grosvenor arch, and then a series of innocuous presumptions, oversights and decisions that resulted in n battling 55 hard miles over 9 exhausting and psychologically stressful hours.
The whole story will be told with full, unedited photo and video, (parental discretion advised). I will say right now that no one should EVER follow yesterday's track, regardless of the fact that Big Dog rode it 15 years ago and remembers it as being easy.

Back to the Death Valley sandstorm, yeah, that was hell too. Maybe Kelly, Tim, or Wayne can post an update to keep the peanut gallery entertained?

So today, laundry and hanging out. Weather should clear this afternoon, allowing trails overnight to dry out. Heading towards Wolverine loop, Henry mountains, Poison Spring / Dirty Devil crossing,
Flint trail, Arches, and 3-step.

450 miles routed to go. Looking forward to seeing some of you at the 3-Step Hideaway open house next Saturday!

PS: we'd intended to check in with the Hanksville BLM field station for intel regarding the Poison Spring road conditions, the Dirty Devil river crossing, and the Flint Trail condition. They're closed today & tomorrow, so if anyone has any info, please post. If not, no biggie. We're being smart today, so we can be stupid again tomorrow. :-) We'll figure it out when we get there.

sent from the field; please excuse brevity & mispellings.

River flows

Dave,

There is a river flow monitoring station at poison springs crossing of the Muddy. Again, check intel in Hanksville either at Stans or across the street. One of those places will know dirty devil status.

Dirty Devil River flows here: http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/ut/nw...te_no=09333500

sent you an email as well.
