Florida to Guatemala August '08
Well, I'm seriously considering the trek from Florida to Guatemala.
I plan to leave the first week of August (or thereabouts)
I'd be starting in Tallahassee Florida, I-10 runs within a few miles of my house.
Probably make the ride to Houston in 2 days, stopping in New Orleans for the night.
From there head south to Brownsville and spend the night before crossing.
I'd try to stay along the coast as much as possible through Mexico
Try to make Tampico and stay the night
Try to make Vera Cruz and stay again
From there, try to make it as far as possible towards/ into Guatemala, and end up in Panajachel, if I end up taking an extra day for weather etc. here or there, it's Okay
I've driven to Belize in an RV before, but never been out of the US on a motorcycle, so I'm looking forward to the adventure!
Any tips, ideas, favorite hostels restaurants etc. are greatly appreciated!
A return route isn't specified, because I'll be keeping the motorcycle in Pana to use as transportation when I'm living down there next year

You can make Tampico in one day, and you can make Veracruz the next day. Both days will be 300+ miles and long and tiring. You really couldn't pick a hotter time of the year to do this. What are you riding ?
By the way: This will get more attention in the Americas section
If I wasn't here, I'd be somewhere else

when you are around Panajachel, stick to the main roads. I got robbed there at gunpoint, and others have also. You are sfae if you stick to the pan american, but don't try to venture off to see where a dirt road will take you.
Hope this helps
