Slappy responded to say that he has not installed the rallye tanks yet, and he may not (rethinking the extra fuel capacity need). If he does he will post his experiences. Regarding installation he said this above...

If not then just get the factory one. I have not yet done the install but it looks pain-free for the right side. You must modify the little bracket in the area of the exhaust mount. Also it looks as though the tank is pretty close to the exhaust and may require protection from the heat.

oops

This thread is about the rear rallye tanks for the 640 adventure...

There was someone interested in that conversion in a different thread - hope they find it here. Looks great!

Baja Designs option

Found some pics but haven't found the item on their website yet.

They look like they might be where the LC4 Adv exhaust goes; the other side would be better.

Man, that is the coolest auxillary tank I've seen yet. And the color is spot on for our 2003 adventures. If only they make one for the other side that will have mounting holes that line up with the Adventure??? Probably wishful thinking but perhaps we could talk them into making one?? Seems the demand would be greater from the Adventure guys than the 525 guys???

I don't see it on the baja catalog either but perhaps its not pictured but, in the fine print? I guess we should call and in inquire. How do you know it is Baja Designs and not another manufacturer?? I want one! I wonder if that sucker will squeeze under my luggage rack??

Thanks Mack, that's all I found too. I wonder if demand was so slight (as Swampy thought) that they just dropped it. Remember that you might be able to get the KTM Rallye tank (for the right side) that is sourced earlier in this thread. Some mods to make it mount but other than that it should be schweet.

Like Mick and the boys sang, "Paint it Black!"

Cheers!

Yeah, that could be done but, Mick and the boys didn't have to worry about laying it down and scraping through to the Orange occaisonally. I'd rather find a Native Black plastic and the Baja fits the bill but is the wrong side and who knows if the mounts would line up anyway?

You could also coat it with that Rhino/Line-X crap. An abrasion upgrade to boot!

Now there is a better idea--if I can find who has that crap!

Also, I just put a query into Baja Designs about whether they still make the tank, if the mount holes line up on an LC4, and if there is any possibility of getting a right hand tank made.
The contact site stated they would reply within 24 hours. Probabilities are remote but, who knows, it can't hurt to ask.

If they are gonna fabricate something it would be nice of them to connect a toolbox to the inside or bottom. if they need more strength for the weight maybe a kit with something to buttress the rear subframe ... dang, couldn't think of a different word.
