Just got rear ended
I was getting an early start to San Francisco from Orange County and getting off an exit and almost got to a complete stop...then whammmm!
This Lady never even stopped and probably hit my triumph tiger at 20 mph or so. The jolt was tremendous and looks like her bumper hit dead on to my rear tire, so I imagine the impact could have been much worse. We traded information and just filed with my insurance. Apparently she said her license was revoked so got out of their quickly when the CHP came along, but she made the statement that she was at fault in front of them......I called the reporting officer later that night to report that she told me she had a revoked license. No photo's, but she whacked my rear pretty good. I had my bright ugly Olympia Jacket, full riding pants and a working tail light...back is hurting like hell and going to get checked out monday. Looks like I'm the 2% that gets rear ended. If anyone has followed my posts since moving to CA soley on my motorcycle, this is my 3rd time getting hit by someone else. The last guy totalled my 99' triumph tiger and was really just starting to enjoy my 01. Who needs a real job when you can just get hit by cars in California?

Wow! You've had a string of bad luck in S. Cal. Hope your back is o.k. If it were me, I wouldn't cut anyone any slack who is driving on a revoked license -- in fact, there's a better than 50/50 probability that she had warrants and that's the real reason she wanted to fly.
Get well soon and I hope yo have better luck inthe future.

I am glad you are mainly alright. I've been rearended twice. Once while moving at around 60/kmh on the motorway (I was braking), thankfully I was able to stay on the bike. The second time while stationary at a light, got hit by a drunk driver, this time I dropped the bike. My rearwheel bearing is about to crap itself, I am blaming that on those two instances.
I was wearing a high viz vest at the time. I am more paranoid about traffic behind me than ahead of me. At least I can react to what's in front. You've got your three events complete, so this should be it for you

Sounds like she got pretty lucky to walk away from an at-fault accident without a ticket or even getting her license run by the CHP!
I sure hope you come out as well.

Glad you're relatively unscathed. Definitely tell the police and your insurance co. everything. She knew she was breaking the law so she should be the one to suffer the consequences, not you.

How are you going to feel if she kills another rider, or runs over a kid walking to school?
This bitch has been playing fast and loose with the law, and putting everyone else in danger with her irresponsibility. You NEED to report this. |

Let me get this straight.
You got rear ended by a driver admittadly operating on a revoked license and you let her go because of some sob story she gave you? You, sir, are a putz, also a schmuck. Good luck telling that story to your insurance company. Forget about reporting it to the police. They will no longer care. Good luck on getting any money from her likely bogus insurance. You said CHP was on the scene and they didn't check anyone's papers? I find that strange.

Just got back from the hospital today, everything checked out okay from the X-Rays and consider myself lucky to walk away as I did. I later called the police why she was so fast to get out of there and they said they would take care of the rest. I imagine her insurance won't cover her regardless, so sure am happy I added every possible insurance on my policy since the last car that hit me in LA.
I may just let a lawyer take half on this one...shady moms in jail sounds better than dead riders...thanks guys, I'll keep ya posted. Hey Kokopelli, you're right...got my 3 out of the way and looking forward to some clear riding! scottymx48 screwed with this post 05-31-2008 at 06:56 PM |

Slowing and stopping. The most dangerous maneuver on a motorcycle. Never assume the person behind you is going to slow or stop. Glad you are walking.

The Hurt report about motorcycle accidents says most of motorcycle accidents envolve unlicensed riders. Maybe taking the time to get a license is related to safety and carries over to automobile drivers. You get your license revoked for hit and runs, dui, speeding, reckless driving etc. She had no license and hit you, do the math. In my state you drive without a license you go to jail then you can figure it out in court. I would bet all the information she gave you is bogus. You got hit at 20 mph and walked away, rode away? Lucky

To reduce the chances of getting run over from the rear, for a grand total of $40 I installed an auxiliary LED brake light and a pulse circuit on my ride.
http://www.transalp.org/phpbb2/viewt...hp?p=8745#8745 If you want the absolute best in an auxiliary brake light, for about $50 the Whelen LIN3 would be the ticket. Their TIR3 is similar a unit but the LIN3 has a wider visible viewing angle. I didn't know about them at the time or would've gone with the LIN3. http://www.sirennet.com/whrs-02zcr.html Note - on page 4 post #98 of the first linked thread below, the night pics posted are of a Whelen TIR6. IMO, that light is way too bright for use as an auxiliary brake light. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ghlight=whelen http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...ghlight=whelen

Basically you are on your own to fix your bike. If she has no insurance she also won't have any assets to sue for either. CHP would have been happy to cite her for driving on a suspended and possibly even tow her car.
