close encounter.

I was riding along the Jordan river roads and came across an unmarked 2 track. I headed down it- at first it was good it had a few puddles and a little sand, then the puddles got deeper and the sand got longer, then the sand got deeper and the puddles got longer. A couple of down trees later I came across a locked gate. I could see that the road was right on the other side of the gate. So I decided to get around the gate rather than go all the way back. Half way around the gate another rider came up from the road side. He turned out to be a Michigan conservation officer on an XR400. I explained that there were no signs or gates when I started on the 2track. He said it was no big deal and helped me around the gate. It was nice to see that there are nice guys out patroling the 2 tracks.

It was probably a "seasonal road" which is OK to use unless you have no plate. The locked gate says locals are trying to keep people out. Not a good idea to go around locked gates.... Check your tires afterwards? The locals will also put nails down on those trails to keep others away from their cottage, hunting blinds or property.

I want to get up to the Jordan River before the end of the month and do some kayaking. Wish I could bring the bike too. Beautiful area. My grandfather fly fished the Jordan in the early 1900s.

Checked the tires-no nails, spikes, or bullets. Officer nice said it was all state land. I'm two blocks from the where the river meets the lake and two kayaks ready to go.

Back riding after a busy first half of the summer! Enjoying the cool weather but not the damn stones on all the good roads.

Well, today was a good news, bad news day for me.

Good news first:
  1. Looks like the little DR is going to get some luggage and a windshield
  2. I'm once again part of another fun sub-culture
  3. One more way to play off road

Bad News:
  1. Payments
  2. Not getting that expensive touring bike any time soon

Bought this today
