I have been thinking about this KLR650: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=936465

I put my Tengai up for sale on CL. I don't use it much after getting the DR350SE and the TW200. Hey, Charlie I kept the Tengai for over 2 yrs. I have had a lot of fun with this bike and made a lot of new friendships.

Nope. But I have owned 3 other liter class in line fours from the rising sun. Lots of fun. The Bandit has a great reputation for reliability. Suzuki sold alot of them. For the right price/condition, I wouldn't hesitate to snatch one up.

Just so we're clear, if you buy that chrome plated KLR we WILL make fun of you.

Anyhow, the chromed KLR is somewhere in Kansas. It is unlikely to happen.
But if the Tengai sells who knows?
You are looking at a Bandit? A lot of current Connie owners also look at the Bandit.

It wasn't really on my radar, but I noticed one for sale on CL. Seems like a nice bike with the power and ergos of a sport tourer, but without all the weight.

I still think you need a DR with a Corbin seat and a 900cc big bore kit.

The Bandit and the Concours C10 are the best Sport Touring bikes for the money. These are good values on the used market. The C10 when fully fueled can be very tippy. Just FYI I have all the plastic fairing pieces and side covers in great condition from a 99 C10. The parts are interchangeable within years. If you get a C10, these are yours.

I can tell you that the ergos on a stock C10 were very hard on my knees and back. Most buyers end up spending some $$ to fix this. The Bandit might be better.

Bandit is a great bike Than. Tons of torque, good tourer....larger than a sport bike, but smaller than a ST or GT.

Haven't owned one....but I'd try one out.

That's what I figured. The power of a sport tourer in the package of a simple, low-maintenance, mid-size bike. Cheap to boot.

I've decided to just wait until spring to buy a bike. The hope of a mid-winter deal just hasn't materialized. Anyone watching CL can see what I mean. Those with the bikes I am looking at know those bikes, appreciate them and know what they are worth. They are willling to wait to get the right price. If I was looking for any old metric cruiser or sport bike I'd be in luck. Unfortunately for me, my tastes don't run that way.

I'm cool with that decision since I haven't ridden nearly any of the bikes that are on my wishlist. I have my weeks days open from 8 am to 4 pm from when the snow clears until when school lets out to test ride bikes. I plan to find some friendly dealers/sellers and take full advantage of that.

Smart move. That was a great idea.
