I grew up a FIP (outside Chicago), and can't stand the Illinois people up here now. I've heard the term used against Hoosiers, but personally don't have anything against the state. Heck, have relatives in Valpo and Indy...

We bitch about 'em constantly, mostly wealthy Chicago people with yacht club memberships, but the $$$$ they bring into this little town sure does help so I don't try not to complain too much. I just wish they would leave their self-important attitudes and finely-honed city-driving skills at home when they come up on vacation.

I can deal with the higher number of people, its the exponential increase in the number of that stinks.

The up-side is you get lots of property taxes from folks that are only there a fraction of the time. I don't know that it makes up for the summer population swell, but it's at least a silver lining. I wouldn't know, people don't typically have summer homes in Indiana!

Half million people in TC last weekend for the Cherry Festival and Blue Angels airshow. What a cluster that was, but I can just see the $ in the merchants eyes...

I was in TC two weeks ago. Some close friends have a 'cottage' up on Suttons Bay and we went to stay with them. I couldn't wait to get out of there. That whole area is exactly what I go north to get away from. So, fib's are the new fudgies then?

As far as freeways go, it aint bad at all. My son and I just drove it a couple weeks ago on his way to Ft. Lewis. Once away from the metro areas, traffic was light and folks were driving very well. It's just the idea of 18+ hrs of greuling boredom and straight nothingness on a motorcycle that would suk. IMHO there are two ways to drive across the plain states. Take the freeway in a nice vehicle with good company and drive straight through to the foothills. Or, ride a motorcycle with no time constraints, taking the most remote back roads the map has listed. There are some very nice deserted roads out there and the plains have a special beauty/solitude all their own. And, if your a cowboy era history buff, the area is rich with intresting stuff to see.

Just had my first Pasty. Heaven.

When I rode I80 out from Colorado I jetted North at Cedar Rapids and hit the North East Corner of Iowa into Wisconsin. Gorgeous. Beautiful Roads, beautiful Scenery. Headed through Milwaukee then North to Escanaba and around. I80's good for making time.
