Day ride in Australian Outback
Winter in the outback ,very dry for several years, but light rains last weekend gave us the excuse to get out for a day, crossing 2 large stations to the East of town who were still yarding and trucking stock off to QLD for agistment.
Starters were a 990 with enough fuel capacity to keep us all going , one very new and shiny 640 Adventurer, a small fast and quite capable Yamaha 250 something and my dusty 950 SE.
Mixed sections of long fast station roads, allowing the 2 orange bikes to hold 150 for several miles, we cant split the 990 Adv and the 950SE in the dirt for acceleration or speed, but the owner of the 990 claims my SE is smoother, but I cant feel any dif.
Bot have had Race tec suspension mods and Scott stabilizers fitted.
Some tight rocky stuff on top of the Eastern Mac Donnell range and then down through a long valley and into deep creek sand which had all the cooling fans pumping and goggles steaming up, and the little Yamaha loving life up front.
Some cross country riding was required when lost in a paddock 15 miles long, and once under the offending fence, back to station tracks and the salvation of a dirt road to home.
8 hours and 350 Kms of fun.
