AMA Suzuki National Dual Sport Series Land Between The Lakes Ride

Guys.

Looks like I will be doing the AMA Dual sport ride up at Land Between The Lakes (LBL). Anybody want to go?

http://www.amadirectlink.com/roadride/ds/

When the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers were impounded to create Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, an inland peninsula was formed. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy designated the peninsula Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area in an effort to demonstrate how an area with limited timber, agricultural and industrial resources could be converted into a recreation asset that would stimulate economic growth in the region. Today, LBL remains the country's only such demonstration site.

http://www.lbl.org/Home.html

I spent 4 years of my life (College) in LBL and have always wanted to go back. This is the ONLY TIME ALL YEAR you have legal access to the hiking & biking trails.

Looks like about 130 miles of dual sport riding.
The ride is September 6 & 7. It does require an AMA membership and the entry fee is $50.00.

Base camp will be Energy Lake Campground.

http://www.lbl.org/CAMPEnergy.html

I will be at site B6 Friday & Saturday night.

If your interested you may want to go ahead and reserve a campsite, they will fill up quick. You can reserve a site at 270-924-2270

Contact information for the ride.

I spent 4 days there several weeks ago. If the campgrounds fill up you can get a back country permit at any of the the Visitor's Centers and camp almost anywhere you please. Then just ride to a campground for showers. It only costs 2 or 3 bucks just to shower.

Lots of great dual sporting indeed. I heard they have closed Turkey Bay ORV Area for some kind of erosion study or some crap. Don't know for sure if that is true though.

Just received my entry form. Looks like 1 day only this year and no food provided like in previous years. No T-shirt. Not trying to discourage anyone as it says 120 - 140 miles 90% trails. One day like that will probably be enough for me and the DRZ. Hey that rhymes. I'll be looking for someone kinda slow to ride with cause I will be solo this year. 1st time to go over there in about 10 years. PM me if anybody interested in teaming up.

Man, I wish I could do this. I promised the doctor and the wife I would not do any off road riding for another four weeks. This really sucks. Have fun.

I will send you some pics Benny. You need to stay off that bike & heal up so we can ride together some time soon. That BIG GS is not a good choice for this ride anyway.

Be good Benny.

Yea, I decided that if I am gona play, it needs to be on the KLR or CRF. The GS is just to heavy to "PLAY" on. Although it does a good job of going a lot of neat places. I wish I could get plates for the CRF. I would love to ride it on the FS roads.

David, I thought hard about doing this but I have promised Pops I will FINALLY go with him and my bro to Indianapolis' TRUCK JAMBOREE the weekend of the 19th. 2 trips to KY are too many in one month. WTF am I thinking going to a TRUCK JAMBOREE? Well, I have no idea actually. I reckon I'll get really drunk with my Michigan Redneck uncles...one of which has some sort of prize winning truck that was a CENTERFOLD of a truck magazine once. Lucky and Pops have been going to this thing for years. Well, at least I will ride the Tiger there...which I am sure will elicit some strange looks... I can imagine it already.. "Boy, I ain't never seen no Harley like that" and "Daggum, what kinda Harley izzat?" "Whatcha got alla that pants and coats on for? It ain't that cold!" "Are you lost?" "TRIUMPH? That ain't no AMERICAN bike, that thing must be junk." "Dayum, yer pipes are quiet as hell!" I could keep going... oh well, should be one helluva ride report, ya know?

I was thinking of going. BUT...neither the AMA nor Suzuki nor the local club will publish any information on the event. What's the big secret?
DeBandi's post above is the most information I have found. Thanks dood! Where did you get your info? Even the Suzuki shops in the area never heard of the Suzuki Dual Sport Series. I sent an email to the address listed on the schedule but have not heard back yet.

It looks like hurricane remnants are headed up this weekend. Should be a wet and stormy one. Have fun guys!
