X-Challenge "Hardless" Guard parts...

These have been made open source.

Please check the X Challenge thread index...
And instead of sending me $$, support this site!

Kutch

If you've been following the Farkle thread for the X Challenge, you may have seen the post were someone cracked a frame near the left side footpeg. All of a sudden that weakness was patched by a “HardPart”...

But after looking at it, the shape just didn’t seem quite right. Too flat along the edge that will come into contact with rocks and logs and...“Stuff”...It needed to be "rolled" or sloped along that edge.

But not only that, I figured -Why not have two “Guards” that not only protect against (as some have found) a really broken frame, but also protect the right side brake pedal area...?

On top of that, "why would you only want to kick one side out"?
Why not kick both footpegs out from the frame the same amount !?

So after laying it out, modeling it in 3D and running a quick FEA on the parts in a few scenarios... I shot the files over to a local machine shop. "Figure make a few and test them out."

I got them back, they fit perfectly.!

So now, make them available to the community.

Heres the deal

To keep pricing down they are going to be going out the door in raw metal.
They may have some sharp edges. No burrs though.

They will need to be painted or "something" (go and get them nickel plated or powder coated if you'd like!!) -to keep them from getting surface rust. Or just sand them every once and awhile...you know, PM..."preventative maintenance"...!

I've also looked at the thickness again with the guys from the machine shop and concluded that the 3/16" thick tool steel is way strong enough.

As far as hardware...
Original hardware worked for me. NOW, that does not mean that "you" may want to go out and buy yourself some longer M10 FHSCS that are about 40mm in length...
(McMaster Carr, #92125A342, Metric 18-8 SS Flat Head Socket Cap Screw M10 Size, 40mm Length, 1.50mm Pitch)
Or
(McMaster Carr, #92125A339, Metric 18-8 SS Flat Head Socket Cap Screw M10 Size, 35mm Length, 1.50mm Pitch)

Your choice.

Ok, cost break down is as follows:

$25 for the left side.

$27 for the right side.

OR $42.50 if you want a set...!
Yes it pays to buy the set..."But many have already got "something" there on the left..."

That does not take shipping/ postage into consideration.
All parts will be coming from 12831 in USA.

Plus (call me old fashioned) I do not have nor want a Paypal account.
So confirming via this thread or PM or email and then sending a check - yah' remember them...! Will be the process.

Now, I have to buy in quantities (10) each...And from the time the order is placed I've been given a 2-3 week turn till I see them.

So what I'd like to do is get a role call on who wants what and then figure if I need to shift the numbers around in the order...

So as of 6/20/08...If you want em', let me know so I can tally this up and get an order placed...!

PS: Thanks to a few here who told me to go ahead and get them made way ahead of time...GB/Crankshaft/robhar54...To name a few.
And yes, you guys are on the list already for a right sider...

Eek

Wow!

I didn't think there would be this much interest!!! -Already from PMs, email and this thread...I may have to order more than I thought!

Just a note:
I'm stripping off the ones I have and weighing them this weekend so I can quickly figure shipping for everyone.

Kutch,

I did learn that riding these things offroad, that the sidestand switch protector thingy gets mashed with regularity. This plate will likely create more mashing, but without having to pry the little steel thing off the sidestand boss each time. Rock bustin' time!!!

These hard parts will fit the X Country too, right? If so, I could amend the thread title to attract a bigger market Let me know.

I'm pretty sure its the same bolt pattern...
Maybe someone with a Xcountry could chime in to confirm...

Other than that, I'd have to run over to a dealer and ask if I could fit these...
Not sure how'd that go...
