Prop the bike on the ctr stand ora bike stand to take the weight of the front wheel. Grab it at the bottom of the forks (with the front wheel off of the ground) and rock it back and forward. If you can feel ANY movement then you need to investigate both the top and bottom bearings. Now turn it side top side lock to lock. If there is any binding or a feeling of "gravel", not being uniformly smooth then again you need to investigate. Could be a loose head nut or could be bearings???
Now with the wheel still off of the ground tilt the wheel just off ctr to the left and then the right. It should just fall of its own accord. If it falls too fast then you may just have a loose head stem nut. If it doesnt fall at all then it may be too tight or the bearings worn. Just a few quick and easy ways to check bearing health before you go heading in.
At 50k km Id prolly go in and check them for a re-grease at a minimum. A lot of muck gets thrown around there in general day to day riding let alone off road.

Bearing part #s from Boltons if interested; (I have nothing to do with them but they have the parts fische online)

Fuel light

My fuel light has has stopped coming on, which has caused some running out of fuel . Is there a sensor somewhere and is it easy to repalce. The bike is a 2003 950ADV.

The sensor is in the left tank.
Make sure the connector is plugged in.

Yeah, I just replaced mine in my 04, its been dead for a long time.
It was about $100 genuine but took about 4 weeks to get.
When you take the left tank off, its the only pair of wires that go to the tank (950), make sure the connector hasnt come unplugged.
The circuit is normally open so if it s disconnected you wouldnt know, it just wont work and no red light.

Need to get seat redone - anyone in oz?

Hi people - the low gel seat on my 04 950 ADV just can't support the weight of my 105 kilo fat arse anymore - can anyone recommend someone in oz to modify it? I considered a renazco but the waiting list is months. I'm going to ride from Darwin to Broome via the Gibb in July & don't want to do half the ride standing up!

Cheers
