When I left Seattle at 05:30 hrs the next morning it was cold, gray and drizzly - imagine that. It stayed that way until I hit BC, where it was colder and really raining until well past Hope. Once up over the hump, it was warm and arid, very similar to eastern Washington, minus the WA. State Patrol.

I arrived in Williams lake several hours before the rest of the lads so I bought some junk food and headed for the park. Shortly thereafter a LEO or two showed up and started exchanging pleasantries with any and all the First Nation folks also enjoying the park that afternoon. One of these folks, a man who introduced himself as Eddie, was very interested in my trip to Alaska. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, rounded black stone. He presented me the spirit rock to help me on my journey. I thought maybe he was going to ask me to give him something to help him on his journey, like maybe a sawbuck or at least a fin, but no such request materialized. I appreciated the gesture and carried the little black rock in my pocket the rest of the trip. Now it sits on my desk. Go ahead, call me superstitious.

Your story had me convinced! I was glad to see the rock watching over us in the motel room at night!

So we finally all arrived at the Jamboree Motel in Williams Lake



This was one odd place... as we were downloading what we needed from the bikes, these dirty trucks pulled up and all these crazy hippy-freak looking young folks poured out of them, obviously having put in a very hard days work somewhere... they were a motley crew, including one fella who had these strange triangle like tattoos on his face & neck. Turns out there were all working in forestry planting trees... nice enough... but very strange!

The motel was a shit-hole... weather beaten, hand rails falling off the stairs, creaky/stained floors...

We survived the nastiness and didn't get kidnapped by the crazy tree-hugger cult, and in the morning it was time to pack up and head north!





And then, as the sun was rising, we were off, with me being the lead FF!

OK... I hate to do it... but I'm going to let the "cat" (or most accurately, the LACK of "Cat") out of the bag... the FF that planned this trip duped us into coming with promises of more titty bars than we could handle... came up with this BS name for the trip to keep his evil lie going... sent us all these emails with grand plans to see the best "hills & valley's" the Great White North has to offer. So I filled one of my Jessies with $1 bills and joined the pack. Every day I woke with the eager anticipation of a pimple-faced teenager, hoping today this dream would turn to reality... only to be told, "tomorrow... I promise tomorrow there will be titties..." And every day, all I got was fantastic scenery, kick-ass riding roads, and the fellowship of some great riding bros... I want my (*^&$^#*%#@ money back!

So, the bad news is... if you are here for the titties... the only ones you are gonna get are pics of Tim's... and you can't see much through all that hair, so I wouldn't bother to stick around for them.

The vast majority of my camera gear stayed at home. Even the D200 and 18-200mm took a lot of space in the tank bag. Non of my fly fishing stuff made it on board either. There was many a stream that had me yearning to fling a feathery offering.

I snapped a picture of where the bikes are parked. after closer examination thats not just oil from a Ford Pinto wagon but it is actuall blood from the murder the night before in the parking lot. the hippies covered it with tree sap and chainsaw bar oil
