After a good morning ride, this pub looked like a good place to grab some chow... and as you saw from Mikey's burger pic... it was!

And then it was off to see more dandilions...

The first stop on our adventure was to hook up with the folks attending Hyderseek. The ride to Hyder is a nice one for those who might not have the ass or time to make it to the "real" Alaska... even though there is no paved roads, police, and the use Canadien money... you can still say you were in Alaska!

Great scenery one you get out of the plains and start getting near the mountains! Even being stuck in construction delays isn't so bad...

Took the time to stop at a little roadside park... the scene of the butterfly porn...

I think the excitement of riding, the anticipation of titties (NOT) Mikey told us we'd see (lying bastard), and then seeing butteryfly porn got to these two... because next thing I know, I turn around and caught them holding f-ing hands!

It was obviously time to get back to riding before these two went all Brokeback on us!

We finally got into wildlife country... coming across two little brown bears within a few miles...

(caught this one on the fly as we rode by)

I was still trying to get in the groove taking photos on the fly... I hadn't used this camera on a trip before...
The day we left Hyder (2 days from here) it was raining, so I had my heavier gloves on... later in the trip, I got comfortable enough to take pics with my heavier gloves on... and my camera is on an "oh shit" cord, just in case I drop it. An hour or two out of Hyder, I saw a big brown blob on the side of the road a good piece up the road. I wish I'd have gotten my camera out then, because as we got closer, a 7'+ grizzley, standing right next to the road stood up, looked at us, and turned around and ran! (he obvioulsy kew who we were!). Wish I'd have gotten a shot of him!

OK, gotta go take care of some stuff... more later this evening (it is only 1500 here).

Looking forward to the end of this report.

I leave in 5 days on the Two Guys and Tige ride from the Midwest up to AK. Thanks for posting all of the pics in the album. I can't wait to see that stuff in person.

So we arrive ar Meziadian Junction, the turn to 37A to Stewart/Hyder to find the gas station boarded up tight.

The two guys with the girlie-man tanks were sweating making it the additional 35-ish miles to Stewart... if I remember correctly we were right around 250 already. With only my two MSR bottles, and a siphon pump to bail them out, we made the turn and tried to ride easy to conserve fuel.

The scenery from the junction to Stewart is fantastic... the mountains seem close enough to touch!

The coolest spot on the road is bear glacier... but we chose to ride on and get pics on the way back through, since we had 2 bikes running on fumes.

Not long after passing the glacier, Eric (dang now I can't remember... was it MIkey?) ran out of gas and I had to break out one of my MSR bottles to get him the rest of the way to Stewart.

We rolled into Stewart around 8-9PM, and the gas station had closed @ 7. So we headed through town towards Hyder. It brought back memories of rolling into town back in '05, when me & WTF finished up out 48-states, Mexico, Canada to Hyder, 10,300 miles in 9.5 days ride.

We were far enough north that the sunsets were getting pretty late. This was at around 9-10PM.

We spent a couple hours kicking tires & shooting the shit and then hit the rack, wrapping up day 3.

Got up the next morning, (Saturday) with the plan to grab chow, hit the pier for pics, then make the run up to Salmon Glacier (the 5th largest in N. America!). We were told the road was blocked by a rock slide, but should be cleared up my afternoon.

The obligitory Hyder sign shot.

Then off to the pier for shots of the sound

A fu-fu flowers & stuff shot

The motley crew

Then we geared up & headed towards Salmon Glacier

I climbed up a snowbank to get a cool shot of the road and the drop off.

And we arrive at the glacier.

The end of the road

A shot of the cleared rock slide

There is a very large culvert with a lot of water flowing through it... it is is a pretty big rush to go out on it. I climbed down into the woods on the opposite side to get pics.

Waterfall shot

All right... laptop battery is about dead... time to hit the rack for tonight...
