There is no "Nazi" association on the bike. It is merely a bike that has a camo paint job. I would bet 99% of people who look at it, would have absolutely no clue that there is even a hint of Luftwaffe "seasoning" to it. Everyone who has asked about the yellow has thought it a visibility thing.
American planes, Italian planes, British planes, Russian planes all had camo paint jobs. To draw ANY conclusion or association because this bike is 1 - German built and 2 - has a camo paint job is, IMO ridiculous. Now, if there were Swastikas, etc. that would be a different story! Even though Swastikas were around prior to the Hitler regime and had a completely differnet association, but I digress. ![]() ![]()

I think it's really fun to work on these bikes, BMW badges all over it but when you start digging into it almost every part says "Made in Italy".
Kind of cool I think... -- Mikko |

My license plate holder has the Aprilia logo/name stamped into it. Anyone ever wonder why the coolest motorcycles come from countries that were our enemies during WWII?

in the case of made in italy logic would dictate that this bike at some point would switch from german camo to america camo.

wow, i did not know that. on the thumper talk forums, someone with an xchallenge posted pics of his cracked frame and damaged engine. he said bmw would not cover it under warranty... even though the rims and rest of the bike were undamaged ( i guess that's a criteria to see if the bike was abused). the poster said that he just hit a rock while in a stream and that caused the crack. he is appealing with bmw of north america, damage is 4000 bucks. here is the LINK. anyone else heard of this on other xchallenges? something about the frame being 'cast'. im a noob so dont know much, just what i read... dangerous!

nice find. so do you think it's a "design" flaw? man i love the look of that bike. ill be getting one in a few months. just want to see the f800gs first then make up my mind. i know they are not really that comparable, but ill just let the bikes 'talk' to me in deciding which to buy.
and now in reviewing your pics, i see you installed them already. Quote:

The 800GS looks to be an incredible bike. I figure from the all the talk, that if you plan on eating allot of asphalt and hard pack trails, the 800 will "talk" to you... If you want anything more visceral, the XCh will speak volumes... But then again, I'm using my XCh as a ~80 mile daily commuter as well... It spoke to me alright...(Can't wait for the other seat to arrive... ![]() )

The swastika is an ancient symbol that has been used for over 3,000 years. (That even predates the ancient Egyptian symbol, the Ankh!) Artifacts such as pottery and coins from ancient Troy show that the swastika was a commonly used symbol as far back as 1000 BCE. http://history1900s.about.com/cs/swa...ikahistory.htm

you'd be surprised how the majority of people don't know this. ignorant people never have issues with fertility.
