Bike hire in Melbourne?

Need a big bike for two-up a few days around Melbourne, first two weeks of april. Thinking of riding the Great Ocean Road, no offroad. But... Where to find an affordable/tall gs-like bike... Tips very much appreciated. Thx.

Only place I know of in Melbourne is Garners bike rentals in North Melbourne but they are very expensive.
Bike hire here is expensive because of insurance costs and registration so it is a small market hence very hard to find.

They do have BMWs but I think they run up around 200-250 dollars a day from memory but worth trying the old Google search thing.

Great ocean road was ok before they dropped the speed limit now it is just a slow crawl with all the tourist buses and such like, good views and a nice place to visit but the fun factor on a bike now is not that good anymore.

Another problem is first week of April is Easter and that means lots of tourists so bike hire will be hard to get, second week will be better and if you make mid week less traffic, just don't try it on a weekend.

Good luck

Ps just checked their web site and a GS 1200 is 240 a day plus a 2500 deposit

It is almost cheaper to buy a bike in Oz than it is to hire one for any length of time.

Yep they're local to me, I noticed the other day a bike hire place near the airport towards Keilor Park Dr.

mats

I met a Dane riding near Melbourne last month. He bought a cheap 250 bike instead of hiring. His plan is to leave it here after a month. I think he hopes to return periodically. plenty of inmates with shed space will help out with storage. Aussie men have big sheds! His name was Mats. Sounded like Mas.

Have used this mob before for our forays on the east coast with no dramas. Gets cheaper the longer you rent them.
