Tank bag question
Rossco - is that the Wolfman Enduro tank bag on your bike?
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...53&postcount=5 Comments on fit and function with the Safari tank? Anyone tried other makes/models with the Safari tank? Thanks again

![]() I've seen John Mitchinsons stuff (Rally Raid Products) up close, and he makes really nice fitting, true to the original KTM design stuff. John is a really nice down to earth bloke; a fun loving enthusiast with a lot of desert miles under his belt... and he rides and tests everything he develops personally... I caught up with him at the TUAREG Rally in Marocco this March where he was giving his 690 R Rally kitted bike some hard core R & D... ![]() ![]() Here he is (on right of photo) together with KEVA Husaberg team owner - Kent T (in blue). ![]() ![]() The stuff John makes is both functional and aesthetically pleasing... in fact if you are in the market for one of KTM's "mythical" 690 Adventures... John's kit for the 690R is probably as close as you are ever gonna' get. ![]() Several dealers in the UK and Germany sell these kitted versions from the showroom... they look like they should have come from Mattighoffen that way! ![]() With the new (auxilliary) rear tank (see below) that John has developed for the 690 R, together with the front tanks/fairing and navigation tower, and the few other mod's that you've mentioned - plus maybe a rallye style bashplate as well - this would be the bike I'd want to prepare for the 2012 APC Rally. ![]() ![]() PS. The achilles heel of the 690R for touring/heavy loads on the rear subframe tank... The touratech racks will assist with this... but the "beefed up" rear bottom subframe bushing kit, also goes a long way to solving these dramas (Rally Raid has this bushing kit too). Enjoy Andy! ![]()

Don't tell everyone otherwise they will all want one.
Loved the pictures, bit like rally foreplay. ![]() The plastic rears seem to be a balancing act between beefing the mounting hardware plus touratech pannier racks for carrying the gear but without overloading the plastic tank. I am sure one of the reasons the original hardware fails is the designers decision to make it fail before the plastic tank cracks as the easier option to change busted bolts rather than a cracked tank. Fingers crossed there is a bit of spare fat in their design calculations. Andy

Will have my 690R in a few weeks and have all the above gear from John to bolt straight on including the sidestand, the whole adventure kit including tanks/fairing/decals etc etc etc and some other trick stuff, cant bloody wait, John was so helpfull and I couldnt recommend him highly enough...........actually I have to wait until the bones in my hand heal from my get off in the APC, so stay tuned.... cheers

This is not a spruke. No he's not a mate of mine but he's the man to speak to in the Northern Rivers area for issues regarding the 690. Contact ASH. KTM Lismore, Phone: (02) 66217726 email: onlinehelp@northcoastktm.com He's an accomplished and competent KTM mechanic who has a faithfull customer base for service issues. He specialises in fault diagnosis on the 690. Mine has come up clean every time. Valves, still perfect and exactly mid range after 22,000km. He and Leah ( his squeeze ? ) have the gear to analyse and repair any EFI related issue in the late model EFI KTM'S as well as having a nicely run shop. Ash has assured me that they might beat ANY price you might have been quoted from ANY other source for both service and price for anything KTM. ![]() A fair product for a fair price. He's a good bloke who needs a look in, in these GFC day's and that's my motivation for this post.

The trip is done
Well the odometer say over 9000ks but will have to re,do the math
my 690r just one drama with the stearing stem nut and lock nut coming loose and doing a bit of damage to the thread but found an engineering shop in Mt Isa and goot it fixed. The 640 only one prob clutch slave cylinder o ring fixed at the same time. The other 690 not so good, tank bolts and fuel system probs, all got fixed at diferent sections of the trip. All up a great trip Darwin to Broome across the buntine hwy then Mt Isa to birdsville for the races then Camerons Corner back to Mackay |
