If you're truly secure in your riding ability you can wear anything you like (except BMW gear, I guess). If you're not then you'd better wear the orange stuff so the cops know you didn't steal the bike. Any decent country cop can recognise an unworthy on a KTM.

Right... must prepare for some hassles with the law then cos I'm certainly unroadworthy

yeah price put me off a bit too but look at the alternatives i.e. mid size dirt oriented FI new technology and you have the TE610 and the Xchallenge and that's it.

As for coming off an old school DR, I still had to do the springs, emulators etc etc etc which ends up being a $10-$12k bike with 30yo technology. The WR250R is $9k and enduro's and $12+ so I thought it was about right

In the end there wasn't that much difference and what there was I felt could be easily justified so I'm happy. I reckon I'll get a the racks, bigger tank when they figure out how, plus do the seat which I hear is a shocker (dunno if they've ever tried a DRZ for a few hundred k) and that will be it.

What has put me off (other than waiting so long and the cost).. the "KTM 690 Enduro R"

Briefly up on the KTM site, for me at least has everything that the 690 E was lacking in.

FMF are making a pipe for the 690E now, and Akra already have one.. $1000 or so. Long range tank seems to be in the pipeline already, and racks and panniers can be bought already.

Fuel efficiency is very impressive.

Leggo, the Orange in this one is very strong, we will need at least 1 lb of butter for this one.
