10w-60
From what ive read the 690 is one of the bikes you have to use the proper oil with.
I use 5100 10w50 in my 450x but i change it after every ride {80odd k's}

It is important to use 10w60 in the 690 for some reason. I always used it in mine for the 26000km that I had it and never used any between changes, but did the change at 5000km and filter every 2nd change.

All comment received so far have been useful (PilbaraGoat - heated grips?? Tom Price obviously thinned the blood a bit huh; Wilmo - I'll look at testing the AC/DC current draw), especially the amount of extra electrical gear you guys subject the bike to. I was concerned I was overloading it, but that I can't be the case.

Well - now have a new stator, KTM are trying to get the second battery in under warrantee. Which leaves me to buy a new battery myself (they can't get a decent battery until August), but that's ok by me - I'm not paying a KTM lacky to do one of the simplist things.

Hopefully, this solves my issues and I can get back to riding.

So what , if anything changed engine wise to extend the oil change interval? 5000km changes for 2008 model, then I presume from what has been said it changed to 7500km for 09-11, and now 10000km for 2012?

Anyone running external fuel filters I got a Canam P/N 709000100 today from Brisbanes BRP Dealer at Zillmere for $23.20 and its a 10 micron EFI filter, fits great same as the Purolator I bought from the states but less hassle.
Plenty in stock.
