no doubt the bike looks to be a good thing.. untested, but good..

but shit.. you could buy a new DR, fit a full ohlins suspension kit (or whatever), a big bore kit, ralleye fairing, and a bunch of spare carby's.. and still have change from $16K..

but it will still look like a yellow bike

I read somewhere that the reason the switch is under the seat is because you are supposed to turn the bike off before changing the mapping. Be thankful its not the same as the 625. The wires are located under the side cover which means taking the seat off and then the sidecover. Having said all that I think one of those EXC switches are the way to go. Anyone got the part number?

I like the look of that 690E myself, but is it worth waiting for the 690 Adventure instead ? ... I mean, the Adventure is likely to have all those touring farkles - no ?

Sorry, I just realised that I answered my own question. "Waiting" is not something I'm good at either. Enjoy the E !

Hi Graham,
The 690 Adventure probably, and I mean probably, won't be announced till 09 so I don't think we shall see one till twenty 10. I could be totally wrong as well, but the mail is they are in no hurry to get one out the door.

I had a good look over the one at Bairnsdale KTM on Saturday. Quite liked what I saw - apart from the large muffler. Very tasty indeed!!

I said if I wanted one I would have to be a single man again however if it was an Adventure we might be able to talk business.

Wings also make a nice muffler replacement -see page 28 of the latest CycleTorque.

Now that I think about it rossco, The 690 might have a low octane map that is switched under the seat, like the 640/625 have that is switched by disconecting a wire under the side cover. As stated above, the manual says not to switch the maps with the engine running on the 640. The exc ignition maps on the other hand can be switch on the fly. But they're not hi/low octane, there soft power delivery/full power delivery.

Funnily enough, the airbox intake faces towards the back (it's very high up too, should be up for some great creek crossings pics) and it needs a couple of torxs screws to be undone to gain access.
the exc air intake is at the rear of the seat above the rear guard. Airbox access is tool free, just pull the airbox side cover off its held in place with clips.

Couldn't help savin' ya the trouble...
But check out the lack of a rack, or any place to attach your own. I do hope the aftermarket comes to this party.
