I sold my '82, all original, with 20K miles, 3 years ago for $4,000.

And I bought one 10 years ago for $3000 with 3100 miles on it, put 50,000 miles on it and sold it for $3000.00. The market is just soft right now.

I would expect excellent examples of the "nekid" model to bring more than the touring version. I would not want to pay top dollar for a low mile original, or concourse restoration, and then not be able to ride it. I'll take a good looking runner any day.

No doubt about it, the early ones are the most desirable and are selling for good money.

The 78/79's are the ones to have, although the 82 is a much better bike, and the second most collectable of the 4 yr production. Mint condition are about 3- 4 1/2 thou in the northwest.
I think the 82 is the one to buy right now, it can be had reasonable unlike the first year model. I just sold 2 early sand cast head Japanese made ones, 8K each. This may be a plateau for a while for those. Mechanical parts are getting tough to find, as are cosmetics. There are groups of guys who are hording nos parts to keep prices high.

Probably worth $5000 or more parted out if the body parts, pipes and stuff are good. I sold a used bag for over $300, a speedo for $150, a NOS tank for $600... and on and on. But it's a pain to do the work. It's just nice to know if one ever should damage a CBX to the point of qestioning repair... turn it into a streetfighter and sell of the extra stuff to pay for it.

Agreed, CBX's are worth 5x as much parted out, but that kind of the way it is with alot of Japanese bikes "of note".
