Macara, Ecuador to Cuenca, Ecudor

So we start the next day with David leading the way to his home in Cuenca.......

This ledge which I still think is Jesus is were Jim stopped and climbed up for a group shot as we rode by....While he was up there getting ready for us to come by his over loaded bike fell over. As we approached he couldn't go pick it up, he needed his shot. The shot in the upcoming March issue of "Rider" magazine has the shot he took from this ledge.

As we ascended into the clouds it started to rain and get a little nasty.....

Here came the rain......

After some rain and a quick stop for coffee at a little hut on the side of the road, we continued on and stopped for some lunch. This is also were I said screw it to a broken visor and threw it in the trash. I would go all the way home to Virginia from here with no visor.

We made it to Cuenca late afternoon and David hooked us up with a couple of friends of his that owned a bed and breakfast. It was the nicest place we stayed so far.

They had a Peacook!!!

That night we met at Davids house for some drinks and to see if he could help us get our bikes from Quito, Ecuador into Panama City, Panama. You see, we had recently found out that the ship that was going to take us to Panama City did not exsist. David started working the phone and Skype. Hey "Albert the Turtles Head", Thanks for info.

We got some reassuring info and David treated us to a Fabulous dinner...Thanks Dave

The next day we would visit the city, meet up with the Sequin Bros. and try to get some more info on how we would cross the Darien Gap.

The Long Ride

I was in Barns & Nobel last weekend when I came acorss the Rider rag. Doing my usual skim thru I find Mr. Petersen fantastic write up of y'alls adventure. Thinking, damn I'd like to see more pictures and read more details....and here we are, now I just need to read a 1-1/2 yrs worth of thread!

Thanks for sharing on ADV!!

Btw, I'd like to buy you a beer, if your still local, for doing such a great job promoting your cause! And of course hear about the trip in person

Next day Jeff visited some doctors as he was in some considerable pain from the wreck........

Katie and I went helmet shopping for me(Ecuadorians have small heads because all we found was mediums and I have a huge head xxl), Jim went to hang with some Rotarians, and Ken stayed on a computer trying to set up our plane flights in Quito.

More Rotties!!!

Ecuadorian mountain side

About 50 miles or so out of Cuenca David and Raphael said goodbye. We all shock hands and took some pics anf parted ways.

We rode hard all day stopping only for lunch and a few pictures and arrived in Quito late in the evening.

We made it to Quito and Jeff seemed to be feeling better but didn't look much better.

That night we went to "The Turtle's Head " bar. That was on my to do list. We had a good time and some good and well deserved liquid libations.

Ken ready for a night out on the town.

This is a sign that hangs outside of the bar.

The bar and its lovely bartender

Ahh...my favorite.....Jagermeister!!!!

Wow, great report Moses! You've been putting it together on the installment plan, I see Looking forward to how it all went from here as is everyone else, I'm sure. Maybe I'll get to meet Dave one day; seems like forever but was in Cuenca last time a year ago Christmas. Saw a big BMW with "Dakar Argentina - Chile" on the windscreen, but no time to get the camera in gear zipping through the intersection on a city bus. Cuenca is awesome; I recognize the Turi overlook from which I have a few pics myself You aren't that far from here; let me know if you're ever riding over into the valley
