Laugh Sierra Tour - black meat, hot tubs, bacon and a couple of passes (loads of pics)

Well a plan was hatched to head over and kick MojaveGS in the shins one last time before he leaves the left coast for greener pastures.

Stonewall would be riding up with MojaveGS to show him some sights and the meeting spot of Benton Hot Springs was confirmed for the grilling of much meat and consumption of many beers.

With the crazy brit on my tail, we also brought along Bacon the adv mascot touring puppet thing for a few pics and miles.

For the bacon report go here
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7310168

Well as per the norm with me I was packed and ready to go a day before departure time!
My packing skillz are becoming legendary!!

Well Maddbrit was making one last "work" call from casa angry and we would be off

bacon and I were ready!

Lucky his card has a high limit, gas is stupid costly!

My plan was to ride through niles canyon and livermore and miss the freeway but in hindsight, the freeway would have been much quicker and easier.

Slabing it through tracy etc, the windmill farms are cool!

Manteca was "interesting" the carnival was in town, that added to the strangeness

I like old road side signs

The firework stalls were out in force which was crazy with all the smoke in the air from all the fires going on in California right now! Notice the gray sky, it was like this until we were almost over Sonora pass!

Nice cage!

This would normally be a view of the sierras and Yosemite! Nothing but smoke!

We gassed up in Jamestown before heading over the pass. Maddbrit opted for the almostallgearallthetime approach due to the heat.
I think he was just trying to fade his stich evenly on all sides?

The sky started to clear the higher we got and the further east we traveled.

Maddbrit's reaction to the altitude and its toll on our athletic bodies!

looking ahead we knew we had much better conditions awaiting us.

The 3 amigo's

Some cool buildings on the way over the pass

Some cool older cars passed us too.

Some nice sweepers!

Was nice to see the blue sky again after a week or more of gray skys in the bay area

imagine a smile behind the chin bar

we saved some gas and coasted down the hill!

what! not more twisties, this place sucked!

boring!

boring!

boring!

This is were they opted for a stick of TNT rather than giving us another nice corner to navigate around.

We kept climbing

wow give me a skyscraper view any day this mountain stuff is just silly

Not many folks know this so don't tell them, but I am a bit of a tree hugger. By that I mean I like trees, not so much for hugging but for looking at in awe. CA has some of the most amazing trees in the world!

I strap a camera to my neck for most of these shots and on occasion I take a pic I didn't really know I took.
I kinda like this one, mesh keeping me cool, tunes keeping me singing in my lid and blue skys warming my soul.

Some more of the scenery.

We got closer to 395 and Bridgeport

and then

Maddbrit still opting for harley style safety gear

I love the scenery this side of the sierras

There is a helicopter over my shoulder doing some sort of training thing.

We made it to Lee Vining and my GS needed some more go juice to make it to Benton and out the next morning.
Nice wee town

We stopped here for an ice cream, she got in the way of the shot. Terrible!

The view of Mono lake

Some nice sweepers here too, watch out for bacon of another kind here!

Don't think we have had a mountain shot in a while.....

We turned on to the road to Benton, wow! It is like a roller coaster, sharp hills and drops. You cold get air if your not careful. Amazing scenery change as you go from desert to trees to desert...

a little of the old up/down!

Shame for the trees!

Some were fine though

Then back to high desert

Speed up and take this one fast you will land in a field!

oh geez more up/down! this was a blast to ride

Had to remind this nutter in this country we ride on the right!

More nice sweepers, did I mention this place is terrible, don't go here. Stay away, nothing to see do or ride! Mkay

We were getting close!

then boom, we landed!

We checked in and then made a dash for the campsite, Maddbrit though he would try their bike and well it didn't go too well!

We got a few strange looks from the lady at check in, more on that in a bit!
We got to the site and stonewall and mojavegs were already there.
We unpacked a bit and MaddBrit played with his new camera

They told us about the check in girl, they told her we had ridden from SF after getting our "partnership" official!
Like a good wife, I sent the boys off for beers and charcoal as I got dinner ready.
Notice the high safety beer run gear!

The food prep

Nice one of the site with the large hot spring tub

That is our tents around the corner

The boys made it back safe and with supplies!

the grill was started

the infamous Fred's steak was slapped on.

Looks like death tastes like heaven!

After dinner we were all fat and happy, MaddBrit couldn't even get up to go to the porta potty!

It was that kinda party, even socks got thrown in the trash (weird story, too strange to repeat!)

didn't put the rainfly or tarp up, spent the night looking at the stars, just lovely.

I'm a bit suprised that there was no smoke there, we ran into it coming back from Des Moines on Tuesday around Ely. Looks like all had a good time, and I can tell you that flying a K100RS on the Benton road is not all good.

And I see nothing wrong with a Brit trying to get some sun.

Mark.

Why am I laughing my arse off?

It's just a little wknd tourist story, but told oh so well.

Yeah. Those roads you took suck. Readers, don't go there. Stay away from Benton HS. Too hot. Too far.
