proud of my girl

We took the bikes out to a local dirt bike area this past weekend. (Sorry, no pics)

It's called Brown's Camp. There's miles and miles of every kind of road and trail you can imagine. A friend from church brought out a little DR 125cc bike that was the perfect size for my 13 yo daughter who's never ridden (yet). If she loved the bike as much as I hoped she would we were going to buy it.

This bike was a little older, and apparently ridden quite hard by previous riders. The clutch was almost gone. It went from 0% engaged to 100% in about 1/4 of an inch of play. Not exactly the easiest thing to learn the intricacies of the friction-zone.

Anyways, she got all geared up (helmet, gloves, armored jacket), and gave it the ol' college try. She went about 10 feet and fell.

"I'm okay, I'm okay" She stood up, and the knee of her jeans was torn open, and you could easilly see the skinned knee underneath. I had a First Aid kit with me, and we cleaned her up, and she was good to go.

Although the day did not go as I had hoped it would, at least she tried. She climbed on that bike, and did her best to share one more thing with her dad.

I looked at her in her shorts yesterday, and there's a big ol' scab there now bigger than a silver dollar. One part of me was sorry to see her hurt, and the other part was proud of her all over again for having a motorcycle injury. Hopefully, the worst she'll ever have.

Proud of you, Angel!

Laugh

You've started something great. WHen she gets older and marries a guy who wants to ride she will look back and say,"I remember my first ride!" And hubby will say thanks "Dad" I have the best wife ever.

OK maybe I crossed the line nobody wants to think that their little girl will ever be old enough to marry!

When I think about her, which is often, I think of that line in that song that came out a few years ago...

"Oh with all that I've done wrong, I must of done something right
To deserve a hug every morning, and butterfly kisses at night."

Who knew these little girls would have such a tremendous power over us full grown men?

Not to steal your thread but I let my daughter take her first real ride last week in Utah. She did great for 18 miles of the trail until the dreaded off camber hairpin downhill turn with some gravel mixed in.

Her knee probably looks the same as your daughters. I won't go into the screaming details but she's ok and wants to ride again. This time with proper equipment.
