Hi Rob,
no, that has nothing to do with relationship ... Stefan is compairing the number of habitants in a square-km in German regions and in Australia. Although I think, if you take a look at Sidney or Canberra it might be similiar to towns like Berlin or Frankfurt in Germany. But if you go out to the country-side, I think Germany is still crowded in it's loneliest regions compaired to the little number of people living in the Australian outback.

Hey, welcome back everyone. It's been a bit quiet here for a while and I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms. Good to see everyone out and about again, and safe after the silly season.

Im a bit envious of you guys out riding. The weather here isnt conducive to going bush at the moment. This weeks forecast is, 38, 39, 40, 40, 42, 40, 37 degrees C , so Im staying inside apart from the odd splash in the pool.

Off to but an air conditioner now.

PS. Im another tank patter.

Mixture and Economy

Can you guys give me an idea of the fuel consumption of a well tuned SR41 (750) DR?

I put the carbs from the SR42 on my bike (the ones with the removable pilot jets). The bike runs great after replacing all the O-rings and slide guides but is using more fuel. I used to go 400 to 420 k before using "reserve"....Now it's down to 370 k.

Milage is 38 miles/gallon .... or .... about 16 kilometers per liter.

With the old standard SR41 carbs I was averaging 42 to 45 miles per gallon ... or ... 18 to 19 k/l.

In comparing the carb specs in the service manual, I noted the SR42 carbs have a richer needle jet (O-5 rather than O-4) but use the same needles.

To compensate I moved the needle clip up one notch (to lower the needle) today. Only rode around the neighborhood since I was running out of time. The bike ran fine without any hint of lean conditions. I'll give it a better ride tomorrow. Unmodded airbox, clean standard filter, standard exhaust.

I'd just like to know what figures are "normal" or common for the Big

my smurfie takes between 6.5l/100km up to 10l/km, acc. 15.4 km/l respectively 10 km/l.

Final ratio 15/50, actually Metzeler Unicross tires, nearly offroad use only.

Oranje one is at approx. 8 l/100km (12.5km/l).

Final ratio 14/48, onroad use only.

Green SR43 is at 6.5l/100km, onroad cruisin' ;)

You have to break an egg to make an omelette.

Hello all

Ladder I was getting about 17 k/l when the Big (sr41) was running, a little less when "pressing on" The best I ever did was 512k's from a tank, Mrs Z had to ride home and get some fuel in a container for me though

For those of us less educated this makes all those numbers easier http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/fuel

Seems most reasonable sized road/adv bikes get between 18- 19km per litre (in my experience on the road somewhere near the speed limit) sometimes I dip into the 17s and occasionally see 20, whether that be a 750/800single or KTM, Aprilia or Harley twins, Thats about 50- 55mpg if your of British descendants

Mine is 5.5 liter per 100 cruising at 120 kmph, 6 liter in any kind of mixed riding. 5 liter per 100 cruising non-stop of 90 kmph limit. My wife, luggage and german motorway at 130 kmph = 6 liters per 100

Kyle, since those pic,s I have added braceing from both sides of the rear frame the back handle bolts to a centre point at the back centre of the guard, using one of the bolts that mount the small rear tailight.
It is now very solid and don,t vibrate at low revs.
it is now very good.

800 motard with pumpers and 2 150mm long foam filters cruising at 100kph is spot on at 20klm,s per litre'
Orange 750 with pumpers the side cut out of the standard air cleaner and small foam cleaner added to the top of the air box fully loaded with all the camping gear etc on hwy sitting at 4500rpm with no headwind only once was 22.1klm,s per litre.
Blue 750 with standard air box and using the air filter cage with no paper but foam filter insert 16.6klm,s per litre and making the motor work.
Yellow 750 with no air box and foam twin air , air filter with 14/50 teeth gearing flogging the guts out of it on off full throttle stuff in the scrub and some road work sitting on 5000 rpm at a guess 12 to 14 I think. but don,t know exactly who cares when your having fun .

HE Caliper and Master Cylinder

Just thought id share my finding after having fitted a 12.7mm bore master cylinder to my HE 4 pot caliper.
Previously had a 15.8mm bandit mc on which was not a good match to this caliper, no travel and no power.




Its off a new ninja 250.

Perfect for on road action, lovely and progressive building strongly with enough feel to stop on a sixpence! Acceptable on gravel as the initial bite isint too harsh at all but obviously not for anyone doing anything approaching serious offroading.
I even did a wee little rolling stoppie (in the wet!) thanks to anakee2 grip As good as id want in brakes on any bike and mucho recommended for the tarmac fellas out there.

Thanks for the conversion page.

Thanks to all for their responses. It gives me an idea of what's "normal"

I knew there would be a "range". My point was that with the carb rebuilds, I was looking for improved efficiency. Having it get worse told me something had changed. I know I altered it from stock. Hopefully dropping the needles a bit will help. I'll run a tank or two through it and see what happens

I'd like to see 19 to 20 km/litre but am not going to sacrifice engine safety or performance to get there. 400 to 420 km before hitting "reserve" works very nicely for my normal day rides and I'd like to get that back.
