Information about the Uly Engine
I'm looking for some information about the Uly engine. Really, I just want something to brag about. Anyone have any links I can be reffed to? I'll post anything I find.
I have a 2006. Here is a list & links to things I've found: Buell's DDRI (DYNAMIC DIGITAL FUEL INJECTION) Buell Ulysses Wiki Article Four Stroke Engine Wiki Article (Well illustrated) Coarch screwed with this post 07-17-2008 at 10:15 AM |

Is there anything in particular you want to know about it?

Since the Uly engine is based on the Sportster engine, there's a shitload of info spanning 50 years out there!

The only thing that is like "a sportster engine" anymore is that it is a Vtwin. I have a sportster, and they are different is so many ways, it is tough to type it all. Meanwhile, you can beat the hell out of the modern Vtwins without worry, either HD or Buell, and they are by no means a weak link in the chain of the motorycycles they inhabit. Waiting to get my hands on an '09 Uly so I can ride the hell out of it. Have already done so with my sportster.

There is NO other engine like the Buell engine. It is NOT a sportster engine any more than a Chevy short block V8 is the same as a Ford's 351 Cleveland just because they are both V8's. They are both 45* air-cooled v-twins.
There is no production Sportster that produces the HP and torque that the Buell does. |

The Thunderstorm Buell engine and the HD Sportster engine share no internal parts whatsoever.
The only similarity is that the heads look the same. The term, "based on the sportster engine" only refers to the 45º V-twin design. greenamp screwed with this post 07-17-2008 at 09:44 AM |

If you want something to brag about, there is a long list.
1) No valve adjustment required 2) Parts are inexpensive should repair be required 3) Stone axe simple design 4) Makes lots of useable torque 5) Excellent fuel economy 6) Clean running (no cat converter required to pass emissions) 7) ECU is programmable without the need for any external "boxes" such as a PowerCommander and the software is FREE. 8) Extremely reliable (I've not heard of anyone who's had a catastrophic engine failure) 9) Single throttle body requires no sync I'm not a big, big, fan of the engine from a power standpoint and I hate how it shakes at idle, but I have to admit...it is a pretty good engine. I've grown to like it. It has character.
