I bet you could if you first identified who the "real photogs" are.

Was sunny so I went for a ride this morning. Am currently parked by this pretty little lake somewhere on trail 14 to the east of Hebo, at 2400'.

Finally got home about a half hour ago. A nice 200-mile ride for the day, and about 50 of which (maybe more) was on dirt.

The plan was to see if I could find some of those cool trails near Nestucca, but I turned north on a trail off of Hwy 22 that I followed for a long ways, including to that little lake in my photo, above. I kept going, and got turned back by snow drifts on the trail at 2800'. I then found another route and continued north to Upper Nestucca Road. From there, I went west to 101, then north to Tillamook. I took Hwy 6 to the east, and had an early dinner at Coleman's (since I skipped lunch), which is near a little town called Gates (I think). From there it was south through Forest Grove and McMinnville, back to Salem.

Had there been more daylight, I probably would have taken a less direct route home... certainly one with less traffic and fewer long straight sections. Oh well. I may go out again this weekend and go farther west before diving onto dirt and make another attempt at finding those other trails.

As for photos... I would love to have some critiques from good photographers too. I DO believe there are rules to be followed if you want good photos. There's a difference between any old photo somebody shot and one that is actually interesting, and one you enjoy looking at. So rather than blowing off the "rules" I think more people should embrace them and strive to take better photos.

I don't have a DSLR, and I don't know if I'll ever get one; they're too big to deal with on a motorcycle (for me), so I stick with my point-n-shoot, or in the case of the photo, above, that was done on my iPhone 4S. So if I can learn to make the most of those cameras, that'd be great.

Then again, maybe we shouldn't. ...

I'm quite sure you FF's can do better than my lame picture...

Getting back to what this thread is all about - - - - As NWGS said when he created this thread "We live in the most beautiful place on the planet here in the NorthWet."

Part of the beautiful NW is we have some beautiful cities and towns as Tom Edison displayed with his view of Seattle. He inspired me to get a shot of where I live, Spokane, WA.

Downtown Spokane in all it's late winter glory. While Seattle lives on the Sound Spokane lives on the River.

How about sharing a photo of the beautiful part of your town or city?

That is a very nice photo of Spokane, a spot that a non resident would not normally see. You captured it beautifully, using the entire frame to make a photograph not just a picture of something. Using the entire frame of the two dimensional object is most important in composing a good photo.I am looking forward to see more unique views of other towns and cities.

That's the blue tanker that almost killed me, Tom. Did I tell you the story at our last buffet meet? Cool pic!

Headed up Hwy 20 to Newhalem, great scenery, weather, and roads. And only a few months until the pass is open!

And this is what it looked like last June when I headed to New Mexico:

I guess from some of the comments, nobody understood what I said. I said "You definitely captured the sky." What I meant was if you have ever been to Seattle any day between October and May that's EXACTLY what the sky looks like. Except on the 180 days when you can't see the sky. But when you CAN see the sky, that's definitely what it looks like. It's pretty funny, I thought, especially since people are always taking pictures of blue skies and puffy clouds around here.

I never said fuck all about the rule of thirds.

Sheez, some you guys are touchy!

Regarding photography rules.....

As was already said it's good to know them but not a requirement to always use them. I think of them more as a guide to help me compose/edit a shot.

Drone,

I knew what you meant as soon as I saw the " " at the end of you comment about the sky.

Ladybug,

Good reminder. I've only contributed one or two photos to this thread but thanks to those that have been more active in sharing their photos, I've been able to see parts of the PNW that otherwise I would never have seen.

Jon...
