I did it on the head pipe on the '07 640A and plan on having the head pipe coated on the 690.

I always heard having this done really made a world of difference in terms of heat that came off of the pipe felt by your leg and hand. Once I put the pipe back on the '07 I couldn't believe the difference it made in the heat department. Another added bonus was that the pipe cleaned up much easier from getting mud caked and the thing always looked just as good as the day I had the coating first applied.

Don't get hung up on the "Jet Hot" brand of coating, and offer the Coater CASH for the job-a little less than he quotes you to see if he accepts.

The 640A pipe cost me $150 as a point of reference.

Remap / Power Commander ?

Please forgive my many questions. Is your Akra and the Wings USFS legal? Whatever that means.

Did you remap your AKRA when you put it on or wait to see if it needed it first? How did you do your remap? What did you get from Akra with the can? Spark arrestor, 1 or 2 inserts? Hows the fit? I read that the replacement cans have problems due to no mid pipe support??? Is this an issue you have with the Akra, or those with their Wings?
.,
The local KTM dealer said they use the customer supplied Power Commander and custom tune each bike on their dyno instead of using a prepackaged map (Akra). The service department doesn't have the KTM ECU program. And, the parts man said I should put on (buy) a street tire if I run the bike on their dyno because the tire gets worn down on it. Sounds logical I have the stock tires that look 90/10 dirt/street Pirelli Rally Cross.

Thanks for your reply.

The dealer might just want to relieve you of 80 fun tokens for the Akra remap.

Why the remap? I opted for the UNI twin pod drop in from KTMTwins, a Wings from Gorzad and haven't looked back. 55 to 60mpg's is what we get with the stock map but I hear that Akra drops it down to the 40's.

Uggg!

Not looking for an argument...but most of the modern EFI bikes are set up pretty lean to meet emissions. So a re-map is a good idea because when you open up both the exhaust and intake because that only makes the situation worse. You may not experience catastrophic failure but a lean bike is not at optimal performance and proper F/A ratio is better when it comes to engine life.

Tell your local dealer to kiss your ass, Power Commanders are so 2005. Buy an ODBII cable for $60, download TuneECU for free and load the map up yourself. Oh, and I'd find another dealer, one that won't rape you.

Cry Which exhaust to get?

Thanks for the input Albie. I have a bad feeling about that dealer too. I took it to the only KTM dealer in the area.
I am looking for the best slip on that will still be legal on USFS trails. I have looked at FMF, Akra and Wings. Just found out the Akra and FMF Apex dont' have spark arrestors.

So I have narrowed it down to; Wings, FMF 4.1 or Q4. All in Titanium. I know there's a lot of love for the Wings. I have heard the reports on the Q4. It sounds like a safe choice to reduce heat, weight and USFS legal. Seems like a lot of people don't remap with the Q4.

1. Is the WINGS USFS legal?
2. How does the FMF 4.1 compare to the Q4 and the Wings?

First choice is Wings (if USFS legal).

When I bought my Wings (6 months ago?), it wasn't USFS approved, but it did have 2 tips and both had screen-type spark arrestors.

Cheers,

How do you like you Wings?

Does the USFS check the bikes for some kind of verification they are running approved spark arrestors?

The akro has a screen type spark arrestor but I dont believe it is usfs approved. Technically all of the aftermarket pipes are for offroad use only. Strange but true. Around here no one checks if it is usfs approved or "street legal".

Any one running FMF 4.1?

Thanks for the info y'all. Any riders experience the Feds giving them a hard time regarding noise or S/A checks?

Any FMF 4.1 cans out there? Speak up. I am about to pull the trigger on the WINGS. Been sitting on the fence for a while. The Wings is less than $400 delivered with the CF end cap. At least it was at the end of March.

takes lot of paper work to get the stamp, somebody from slovania definitely won't go through the pain of doing that.

That said, each time I was checked in California/NV the only thing the office is doing is put a stick in the exhaust and if it gets blocked right away - you are fine - if the stick goes all the way you go home.

Thanks Christian for that heads up on the S/A test. That seals the deal. Thanks to all; Dep411, MrHix, DritySanchez,Albie, Sprouty115, PalmStateCrawler, DirtSolace and every one or you motorcycle loving contributors to this forum. What a cool place to hang out.

I think it was you Sprouty115 that gave me the info on how to get from Atlanta to Conyers to pick up my 2013 690 a few weeks ago.

I like it. It is a little loud when you grab a handful, but not too bad with the small tip. Great fit. Power seems about as crazy as stock or a little more.

I have the regular tip (metal) and would like to mount a turn-down tip but need to know if the inner tip is stainless or Titanium. Anybody know?

Cheers,

MrHix
