Heel guards as luggage tie downs

Anyone out there who uses something like a Giant Loop bag have any issues with the heel guard failing while using it as a tie point for your luggage? They seem a little flimsy to me. Thoughts?

Safari Tank Crew....a question

Guys- For those of you running the Safari tank, surely you don't have to remove the tank AND seat to access the air filter do you?

For just an air filter change, no, you wouldn't need to remove the tank. The seat only is sufficient. However, if you need to go deeper and get below the air box, you would need to remove the tank to access the two screws holding the front of the air box up.

Hello,

this is my first post in this forum, i have been watching for a few weeks now.
A few days ago i got my 2011 KTM 690 Enduro R (my first bike ever, i am a beginner).

Im thinking about adding one or two things.

For once an Enduristan Sandstorm 2 Sport Tankbag
http://www.enduristan.com/de/produkt...dstorm-2s.html
Someone got it? (I was only reading good about it.)
Pretty sure about buying one.

Second, what luggage rack options do i have?
TT, sw motech, something else?
Is it possible to combine soft luggage like The Great Basin Giant Loop with a luggage rack like TT?
Any one got the Giant Loop? is it to big or does it fit fine? Someone got pics?

What are your recommendations?

Thanks for your help

Wake

Wake,

Go to http://www.giantloopmoto.com/ This is the stuff. ! I have one and it is tough and fits dawm near any bike out there. Not to big, depends on how much you put in it.

I just ordered soft luggage racks, tail rack and 2 rotopax jugs for more fuel. http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-parts

Change out that heat exchanger on the back if you still have it on.

Cheers,

Mossback

Giant Loop Coyote containing clothes, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, spares, tools, stove & food, and extra water with TouraTech rack holding a 1gal rotopax and my tent. The TT rack actually has slots that accept the rear hooks on the GL coyote. Personally, I think the Great Basin is a bit on the large size for this bike. The bag will fit, but it just encourages you to pack way to much crap.

Thanks for the replys,

great pictures! What do you think, for how long trips is the coyote doing the job?
Sure it depents on how much stuff you take with you, but lets say longer then (one?) two weeks and the space from the Great Basin is needed?

I have never done any trips like that, thats why i ask that stupid questions ;)

I bought a Wolfman system, but haven't installed the racks yet so I can't tell you how they fit.
http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/Expedi...ddle_bags.html

I have the same system on my Yamaha WR250R so I know the product well and how to pack it for travel. The racks are pretty simple. One tube extends from the loop to the passenger foot peg bolts.

The racks are made by this fellow. He's an inmate here.

The great Basin does not have to be filled.. There are plenty of compression straps to slim things down if necessary, or even strap extra stuff on top, back or on the sides. I love my Great Basin on the 690. With my Tank bag and camelbak, I'm set.

Below is a 690R with a Yellow Great Basin and 690ADV with an Orange Great Basin. No racks, just bags!

How is the Rotopax secured to the TT rack? Any trouble in rougher terrain?

I hadn't had mine long when that happened - note the stock pipe and gas cap. Lost ithe rack and gas can coming down some ledges in Moab. I hope the rider who found it was almost out of gas and said "Thank you Lord!".

Touratech sent me a new rack. Now it just carries my Thermarest.

Combo of Wolfman Daytrippers and Kriega US-10 that works out quite well. There's also a US-5 using the original straps from the 10 as a 'tank bag'

Can't see them in the photo - but the meshy section of the US-10 fits two 1L MSR bottles perfectly.
