I have used my trail star a few times to fix pinch flats , it is a little unstable but works great. Also It is easier to handle than a rock and more reliable than a stick .

I think so there are 2 KTM branded luggage racks. One looks exactly like the TT like the rack.

The other is probably the one they sent by mistake.

I've got this one for my Wolfman Monarch Panniers, it's sturdy enough

I have yet to order my system. Wolfman racks are very expensive compared to these. What mfg is the top rack portion of this system?

That's right, KTM racks for 690 w/ part # 76512920000 are exactly the same as Touratech's, the only difference is the powder coating.

KTM ones cost 259 over here in Europe, Touratech racks can be bought 189 . That leaves you with 70 euros for your choice of coloring.

I usually use just the other half unless going for a longer trip.

These are the ones I was referring to: http://www.ktmtwins.com/ktm-690-endu...carrier-system They even come in TT packaging. Apparently, which is a better deal depends on where you live and where you get discounts. The TT were $345 plus shipping. The KTM racks with a discount was $275 with free shipping. The KTM ones shown, at least the ones I received, are powder coated stainless steel. So, if the powder coating gets worn off, they won't rust.

It's made by Ortlieb, they call it "Moto Tank Rucksack": http://www.ortlieb.de/_prod.php?lang...t=moto_tankbag

I wrote a short review here when I bought it: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=797174

I've been using it for a while now and it has turned out to be pretty good. If completely stuffed it's maybe just a tiny bit too long as a tank bag on the 690 but it works as a tail bag as well. I've also used mine as a pannier top bag on the GSA since it's a perfect fit.

A while ago I strapped the bag on top of a kayak and took it for a week of kayaking: compared with the usual roll-top bags the zipper does come in handy when you just want to grab your camera, snap a picture and move on.

It's pricey for just a tank bag but the versatility sorta justifies the cost.

Ahh... KTM branded TT made.

Did they come with the crappy TT bolts or better KTM hardware?

They are bound to have issues lining up with the holes then. Better get my drill out when they arrive!

The racks are more than strong enough for weekend gravel roads and forests, it's only the single lower support that is of any concern if you where doing some a desert crossing or something and carrying lots of weight. The top alloy rack is a nice custom made job, I just haven't had time to make my tourtech rack. AdventureMoto.com.au here in Aus had a good sale on the wolfman Monarch soft panniers now fitted

I doubt you'll have issues. 4 buddies and I put the KTM racks on our 2013s and none of us had a problem with alignment. However, I would recommend using lock washers AND loc tite on the bolts that attach the racks to the footpeg bracket. We all had issues with those bolts loosening on a fully loaded week long trip in Utah. The bolts are stainless steel too. What is usually the issue with TT bolts?
