1150RT Tires

I've currently got Dunlop D220 tires. They stick pretty good dry or wet, but the front grabs every little road anomoly and shakes the bars. Raingrooves are the worst. These tires have to go. It's the rib in the middle that does it...kinda like a modern version of a Conti Twin rib.

The bike came with Mich Mac90, and I wore them down to nubs quickly. The front had a rib similar to the D220, so it reacted poorly to raingrooves too.

MEZ4's weren't bad, but the rear squared off pretty fast.

D205 was good, but after one set, Dunlop discontinued the tire in favor of the D220

What else is there? I tried ME880s on my KLT and while they wore like concrete, but they slipped all over the road, even on hot days.

How about Pirelli's?

I had the same problem, Dunlop and rain groves very bad, MEz's were OK, but I have had the best luck with BT-020's. Handle well, they don't track with every little piece of crap on the road, and so far they are wearing much better than the '57's on the R1100RT. I am on my second set and am pretty happy with them.

Saw write ups on the Azarro, but never tried them or heard anything about them on an 1150, which in my case treats tires much better than the 1100 did.

My new Black RT came with Bridgestone Battlax tires. I'm still breaking them in, but I haven't noticed any skittishness in the rain grooves.

what's up with the damn rain groove bitch???? damn, a cage will wiggle sometimes.. go with the flow, or ride a different road. geez

I've been pleased with the bridgestone bt-020's on the RT. I don't get the mileage as the michelin macadams, but they are better in the twisties. over all, not a bad trade-off.

It ain't just raingrooves, beyotch. It's any damn road with lines in it...patches, grooves, scrapes, chipseal...it pisses me off because it makes the bike ride like a little Yamaha or something. You do enough miles to know when yer bike ain't right...and when it ain't right for a lot of miles it wears you out fast and the fun factor drops. Try wiggles and massive headwind at the same time. That's a lot of fun. That's the reason I stopped at Soledad...I needed to get OFF!

Hmmm...I think that's three recommendations for the BT-020. Might have to try them. As I mentioned previously, I tried them on an R11R and was completely unimpressed. But that might have had something to do with the R11R too.

020

I had a couple sets of BT-020s on the RT as well as the K12RS. I'm impressed with how well they worked on both bikes, although I got 10-12 k out of them on the RT and only about 8k on the RS. I went to a set of 010s on the RS for more "bite", and for my crappy riding, I couldn't tell much of a difference.

Seem to work well with the raingroove thing as well.

Question RT 1150 tyres.................

On my 1100RT's I always ran Bridgestone BT54.....seemed to suit the 'bike, my riding & Euro weather.........

My 1150RT came with the Michelin rubber & so far seem to be okay after 5000 winter/spring miles...............looks like I'll get around 8-9k out of them...........

My instinct says chop them for BT020's at the first change......but this will be me buying Bridgestone out of habit rather than anything else...............I tried 020 on the last 1100 & they were so bad the Bridgestone guy gave me a free set of 54's just to keep me happy.............

Okay, the 1150RT is different: different rear wheel size & shorter wheelbase............has anyone else got anything to say about the 020...........?

My tyres will need a change while I'm away in Italy & by sheer coincidence there is a great BMW dealer about 15kms from our rented villa.............I'd just like to order the tyres in advance......so any other suggestions, guys............(BTW they are suggesting Pirelli.......wonder why?)

I ran several sets of the BT54s on my 1100s, but alas...they are no longer available.

Hi Fish,

Seems like I'm always switching back and forth between the MEZ4 and the B020s. Both seem to suit me just fine, but I do notice more raingroove tracking with the Bridgestones.

Mileage is about the same...around 8-11K depending on how fast the Flame wants to ride...

See ya in Auburn,

Steve
