Night and day difference between the DRZ and the CRF. I owned both bikes until about a month ago.

The DRZ has nice linear power, but only about half of what the CRF has.

The six speed gearbox is nice on the DRZ, but off road it won't pull sixth gear wide open unless you're a little guy. The CRF will pull fifth redline all day, but the DRZ can beat it in top speed if it can catch up. Stock gearing.

CRF suspension is light years ahead of the DRZ, but the Suzuki isn't bad if you stay off large jumps. Open desert terrain is pretty good on the DRZ, whoops will have it fighting you pretty quick.

Both have nice features like kickstand, headlight, tail light, e-start with kick start backup. CRF is liquid cooled, DRZ air / oil cooled.

DRZ will probably run for a long time without needing a rebuild. I replaced intake valves and piston/rings on my CRF before the original front tire was replaced. My CRF was a first year model, I hear those are the worst for those issues but even the new ones require more maintenance than a DRZ will ever need.

Want to do third gear wheelies all day long, blast whoops at 50mph and jump 50 foot double jumps? CRF

Want to change oil and clean air fliters and that 's the only maintenance you'll ever have to do? DRZ

well as much as I would love to do all those things on the CRFx I do not think I am at that skill level yet. I have been leaning toward the DRZ simply because of price, and maybe in a year or two when I have hit a wall on what I can do with that bike, Ill upgrade to a CRFx. By then Ill probably be wanting a 450 anyway. Thank you everyone for the input.

Oh and sily question, I can do second gear wheelies on my DR350(bored to 450) can I do the same on DRZ 250 if I uncork it?

got it

Got the DRZ! So much lighter! I popped the wheel up on accident, so used to the heavy DR350SE. I am happy with the buy so far. Riding pics to come, once I get out

Oh and I ordered the jet kit already, so I think after that, and I figure out what I wanna do about the stock gearing, it'll be plenty of bike for me.

I can do it with 15/49 gearing and I weight 190 pounds,height 6,1.
At a offroad I'v been at 6th and hiting almost 140 kms/h (with 13/49) beating a raptor 350,can-am 450 and a crf250r, I dont know if there were the riders but its true.

OK, so now that I am on a computer, and can properly type:
I have already ordered the jet kit to uncork it, and have already taken it out today, and I am actually pretty pleased on just riding circles out behind my house on post. So my question is, should I just bore out the exhaust as in the write up "uncork your DRZ250" or is it worth it to go with the FMF Powercore exhaust.

There is probably a weight saving with the FMF, the important thing is to get the bike uncorked, either the standard with modifications or the FMF will do the job. In my experience the aftermarket mufflers are quite costly affairs, leaving the modified standard one on may leave you more coin to do other things.

after market support.

Costly affair is right but I still have some money left over from my mod fund. Think I'll get the power core slip on. Still waiting on the jet kit to come in. I have been looking for pretty stuff as my wife calls it (graphics) but after market support is really lacking. I could rock star it up but that's not what I am looking for. Anyone got any ideas about nice looking graphics for the DRZ? Just maybe above the headlight and front fender?

And follow up question, I can't find descriptions on these. What are the differences between these two exhausts, and which would be better?

Carb Issues

Hi everybody,recently I bought a Drz250 2002 it has tm 28 ,I worked a lot trying to start it ,cleaned the carb three times with a carb cleaner (pressured can),I made it run and accelerate and idles very good,the problem is when I do big stops or going down on steep hills the bike decreases acceleration and turns off. What can it be?

BTW the CV carb its lot smoother while Tm its agressive.
