I also have a Djebel 250XC and think that the metal 17 liter tank is one of the bike's best features. Holds a lot of fuel and it's easy to mount a tank bag.

only down side of a metal tank is denting it in a fall.

the xr400 tank works well on a drz250 but i'm not sure about a djebel

as close as i could get in the usa.

Djebel 250 XC rear monoshock and charging issue

I just purchased a Djebel 250 XC to run around the back roads of Uganda. While the bike seems to be in otherwise good condition, I bought it knowing there are two main "issues" that need attention:

1. The rear monoshock is "blown." Structurally, it's in fine condition (no rust, straight)... but the manual says it is unserviceable... which is a big bummer! There are quite a bit of parts floating around here and on ebay... my main question is, what rear monoshocks will work on the Djebel 250 XC? I am wondering if the DR 250/350 or DRZ 250 rear shock could be used if I found a replacement. Anybody have knowledge on this as I can't seem to find any information on the substitutability of parts.

2. The battery is not maintaining charge. I have charged the battery and then the bike starts on the first try and runs strong. However, if I have been riding for a while, when I shut it off and try to restart, it sounds weak. I have tried a different battery and the same problem is occurring. I am no mechanic, but a few things come to mind... CDI/alternator/rectifier or a short somewhere. Any ideas? What can I try or have a mechanic try?

Thanks!

A DRZ250 shock would be a straight swap. It can be rebuilt, you just need to find a suspension shop capable of doing that.

About the battery, yes it seems that it's not being charged. A mechanic who knows his stuff should be able to determine which component needs replacing.

Thanks... if I understand correctly, you are saying that the Djebel monoshock CAN be repaired (but it can also be replaced with a DRZ 250 shock). If so, I will try to find a good suspension repair place to take a look at it (although, that might not exist in Kampala). Any advice on specific repair methods would be helpful so that I can test any mechanic who claims they can rebuild the shock.

its my understanding the djebel has the same shock as the early dr250/350 non-adjustable
the drz250 has the same shock as the last couple years dr350 adjustable

that said the the shock and spring are the same the reservoir is not the same

No idea how they rebuild them, just know that such services are offered where I am. There are some people in the vendor forum offering suspension work, you might want to check with them.

the shock can be rebuilt just that the canister cannot cause in order to get into it, the canister need to be drilled out. I replaced mine with a ohlin canister for XR250R. Race Tech claimed that they are able to mod the oem drz250 canister which is the same as the dejbel250 with a little mod. just to pump gas into the reservoir. check with race tech.

racetech has new blader and end cap with a shrader valve for the drz250 shock
or use the dr250/350 tank with the drz250 hose

its good to have options

@joyjoy and @tdrrally this is great news. I will give the guys at Racetech a call tomorrow. Also, @twinrider thanks for the links to the vendor threads. I see that Racetech offers a discount to inmates. Great news all around!

Now, to solve this charging issue...

I put some bar risers on my bike I made up the other day at work.

Decided to take the bike back off the market.

I just rode it thru some trails right up the street from my house and forgot how fun the bike is, how tractable. Not sure why I didn't install risers sooner

can you compare the 250 vrs the 400e as far as feel on the trail and weight?
the motor will be faster as it's bigger of course.
