Thinking about doing the same , actually i just order the rear sprocket from RMATV , they have one clearance for 16.00 dlls and change , anyway , did you change both sprockets at the same time , what about your chain , did you add links?

Thanks in advance.

I always change both sprockets and chain at the same time. Worn sprockets(even if they look good) will prematurely wear a new chain!

Speaking of sprockets...I still need to count their teeth. But my max speed is about 55 mph. i think I asked this before...

How long do you guys ride to and from the trails? How does the bike handle the roads.

If I had to do a 50 mile ride (one-way) to the trails and back, will the bike handle it.

Some of the good trails are even far than 50 miles from my place.

Fizzer,
My top speed is around 55 also so our gearing is probably similar.
As far as a 50 mile highway commute goes, sure wont hurt the motor as long as you keep the RPMs down(under 6000 for long hauls is my rule).
I do 25 miles one way to one of my favorite off road riding areas but it is all dirt road and seldom over 50 mph. I run full knobbies so that keeps me off pavement as much as possible cuz it wears them out so fast!

Hey there boys and girls. I am a new owner of a 2002 Suzuki DRZ250.
My first bike ever! It had a little over 2000 km on it and is in good condition.
Skimming through this thread helped me make up my mind before I bought it. So I wanted to thank you guys....and hopefully be a part of the crew :)

A little bit about me.
I am a uni student doing fine arts. It was just over 2 weeks ago that I'd acquired my riding license.
I love the versatility of the DRZ250, but for the time being it's gonna be strictly for commuting.
Planning to convert it to a motard when I have the funds...and also give it a nice 'gun-metal grey' paint job. Which brings me along nicely to what I needed advice on. After reading heaps of posts on forums, Krylon fusion seems to do the trick. If any one has experience painting their DRZ250...any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome Red! Good choice. Painting a plastic tank will be a challenge. I have read it somewhere , but if you have already done the reading on painting plastics, then go for the Krylon fusion and let us know how it worked.

Me likes me mellow yellow though

Post some pics when you get a chance...

I finally got around to installing a brake light switch! Only did the rear.
It is nice to be on the road without being paranoid of geting pulled over. It is still not technically street legal. No high beam, no horn, not DOT legal tires but hey, at least I got a brake light
Took her for a little ride and snapped a few shots:

Sorry for the photo whoring!

I put down the paint brush for a few hours today and took the DRZ to task:

Super secret atv trail:

Once again the DRZ ruled!

Took my DRZ for her first off-road voyage after 7+ months of buying her to a local state forest...

there were puddles all over...

and some muddy sections too...

Took a little nap...

came home happy and dirty...

after a shower fresh and ready for the next ride.

Very happy with the overall performance.
