Check to see if you are saving it as a 'jpeg' if you are you need to save it as a 'gif' for it to move.

Is it possible for the avatar to be (permanently) linked to a file stored off-site, in order to get around the (memory) size limitation? ... this for a many-framed animation.

You can link it from another site (like Smugmug, or something), which means it can be as large (memory-wise) as you'd like, but it still has to be 70x70 or smaller. HTH.

Doesn't work ... it will only let me "upload" the file, but there doesn't seem to be a way to straight link it to an external site. I've got my file down to 70x35, but it's over 90KB.

I can get it down to 16k but it loses all the color, You may need to cut a few frames out of it.

Ok I give up, Photoshop LE doesnt do animated gifs and the free gif animators don't quite work out, one won't resize and one leaves a big banner unless you pay them money.
Could someone resize this?

I could certainly lose some frames and reduce the res, but I was hoping to link to it off-site; keeping the quality and the number of frames. I do this on a couple of other boards, so I was thinking this functionality was turned off here.
