Missouri 2011 Swinging Bridges Ride***Apr 30-May 1***

Time for a Roll Call......April 30 - May 1

I can't believe this is the 4th year. We are going to Start in St. Clair, MO this year and run it backwards. See below for the Friday night Hotel info. I talked with the owner and he is a real nice fella. He says folks can leave their trucks there for the weekend if they are staying there on Friday night. There is also biscuits and gravy for breakfast in the morning to get you going. He does have one request: "Please don't bring your bike in the room." I still have to tweak the route so look on this first post for updates. I will edit as we go.

If you don't know the route try to make sure you have someone to ride with that has a GPS....also Self sufficiency is the Key to Success....tubes, tools, GPS, Maps, etc.....

Here's some historic info on the bridges:

http://www.millercountymuseum.org/bridges.html

Here's the previous year's rides...

2008 Ride http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...light=Missouri

2009 Ride http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...light=Missouri

2010 Ride http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...light=swinging

Sticker design to come - need to look through last year's photos for this year's Mascot......and I think I found it..... I will also have those trails in the ride but these are on Saturday and it is the long day. If you stick to the gravel getting to the Elbow by 6:00 or so should be within reason barring any problems.....

Let's stay safe this year........

Friday Night Hotel- April 29th

Budget Lodging
866 S I-44 Outer Road
St. Clair, MO
636-629-1000

Mention the ride when you make reservations.

Saturday Night Hotel - April 30th

Best Western. Phone number is 573-336-4299
When you call them make sure you get $12 off if you mention the ride. You can cancel 24 hours in advance if you can't make the ride.

For those that want to camp - here's the link http://www.layzday.com/

There is also a primitive camp spot as a waypoint in the file.

and ribs at the Elbow Inn . I will get a hold of Terry and he'll have them cookin' for us....I will call Terry this year though we might get in a little late because Saturday will be the long day now.

Fuel Stops.....I would make sure you have a 130 mile range.

There will be more info and as I mentioned I will update this first post so you won't need to go digging. I still have to make a meeting spot on Saturday AM and Tony K can chime in on a few places for breakfast.

I am sure ready to ride....

WHO'S IN?

I picked up a late '60's Yamaha two stroke twin last night. Does anyone know of a good forum that caters to those bikes?

OK, this is the bike I bought...

And, what I want to turn it into...

I want to run it in the Big Dawg 200cc indoor flattrack class in Marshalltown next winter.

Grew up in New Hampton but live in Minneapolis.

I do zip down to Ames a few times a year as well as back home. I'm always looking for routes to take home.

I ride through Iowa often. Last fall I rode Hi/13 into Albert Lea, it was brand new pavement which wound its way through a new wind farm. From there you can jump on Hi/69 which also runs through wind farms and small towns. Turns my 6 hour ride home into 10 but I need to groom the tires a little through Iowa. I find people to be friendly and helpful when needed on these back roads. Everyone is waving at you as you ride through town, but they flip you off on the interstate. Lost my headlight at dusk north of Ames. Fellow rider pointed me to Walmart, then came by to check on my progress. Let me work on it in his garage, told me I could spend the night if needed. Shared a pizza to top it off! I have witnessed/encountered plenty of stupidity(texting while driving 70) and road rage while pounding the concrete strip. Thats when I take the next exit.

On a side note. I found a local Ceramic Coater here in the CR area.

Cool Concepts Performance Coatings

1053 Johnson Iowa Rd.
Amana, Iowa 52203
Phone: 319.540.1571 or 319.540.1572

Going to take the pipes off the HD and possibly the main pipe off the Husky and take it down next week to get a quote/drop off. Over the phone he said around $120 for the HD junk which seemed awfully cheap. Will keep y'all posted.

Talking My bike!

My bike is back. Put some (s)miles on her today.

Now I really know what an LC4 is supposed to sound and run like.

Can't wait till warmer weather gets here. Planning on doing the TWAT over memorial day weekend!

Corn fead, inbread, brain dead, RAGBRAI seems to be the only reasion I go back to Iowa. Cold weather keeps inspiring me to move farther south. So now I'm a MidMO/IA transplant who loves winter in Oaxaca Mexico. 05 klr 650 Captain Tom
