Firebrick, where is that B road?

Need some east to west central Iowa route advice

Morning neighbors. I'm originally from Burlington, but now find myself living in NW Arkansas. I'm starting to plan a mid-September ride on my WR250R from NW Arkansas (Fayetteville) to the NE corner of Missouri, up to Burlington, then Iowa City, across to Des Moines, then on to Lincoln, Nebraska. If possible, I'd like to primarily ride the back roads (dirt & gravel) and smaller rural highways to get there. I'd really appreciate it if any of you could give me some advice, point me towards some good routes (in Laying Down Tracks or elsewhere?), sights I shouldn't miss, interesting RRs or anything else you think that might help me plan a fun route across the great state of Iowa.

The trip I'm planning will take me from Lincoln south to Salina, Kansas, then on to Tulsa, Oklahoma and finally back here to Fayetteville...just in case any of you might be familiar with any of those areas and have sage advice for where to ride.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be willing and able to give me! If you ever plan a trip to Arkansas, don't hesitate to let me know. Arkansas has GREAT rides for both street and trail oriented riders and a lot of my buddies here know fantastic routes to ride.

These maps helped me find the level B roads in Iowa City area. Center column and look for the green roads.

Dubuque Area Resident

Moved to the the DBQ (St Donatus) area in December. Just bought an '02 XR650L with 3600 mi on it. (It needs some exercise, lol). Getting it setup for some daily commuting and exploring. Been riding dirt for years, but time to settle down and enjoy the scenery on a dual sport at 50 mpg.

See ya on the bi-ways,
Scott

You should have spoken sooner, Pilot and I drove right through DBQ on our way to the Guzzi rally this past weekend, it was only 30-40 miles from you, lots of ADV members there.

Question 1982 Yamaha XT250J - For Sale?

Yesterday I scored another project. An '82 XT250. It's missing a few things, and is locked up. BUT! It has a title!!! I'm not sure if I will have the coin for this project right now. I just finished my XT350, and I'm trying to buy a pickup. Anyone interested?

Laugh

Made it home yesterday afternoon from my motorcycle vaca. Trip went well for the most part, 1 bad rain day, and 2 suicidal ravens trying to fly into my bike, but other than that no problems. MX, the Acerbis tank worked great, averaged 60+mpg the whole trip. I also fixed the leaking vent problem by attaching a length of hose to the vent.

I'd have to say the best 2 days of riding were Sunday thru WI via State Hwy 13 and Monday in the U.P. on cty. rd. 519 thru the Porcupine Mtn. State Park. Too bad its over already, now to plan next year's ride into Canada.

Nice job scooter noob.

On eBay there is a sale going on for the tusk gas cap vents. Better than watching your long hose get caught in your rear tire.

Does anyone know of someone with an '09 G450X for sale? I am also open to similar bikes as well.

A couple buddies and I are riding out to Baltimore over labor day weekend for the Grand Prix and I would like to line up a G450X to pick up when I get back and prep to ride it thru this winter. It has been 3 years now since I road 365 and I feel like I really should start again, I miss the "local adventure" or winter riding.

Thanks-

Checking In

Hi guys I have been a visiting the site for some time now and just signed up with an account. It is good to see other dual sport riders out there from Iowa. I have logged many miles on my 2000 KLR and have probably seen some of you on the road.
